How do I break this habit?

Whenever I come back from home, I ALWAYS want to take a nap. It’s not just a 20 min. nap. It’s like a 2 hour nap. Also, I eat A LOT before I take the nap. That’s really bad for me, too.
Furthermore, I have a LOT of homework. 5-hour worth of homework, usually. As a result, my sleeping habit is messed up, I am tired ALL the time, and I cannot function. It is a messy cycle.

I usually sleep around 12 AM or 1 AM. Plus, my phone distracts me even more. I cannot stop going on social media or watch YouTube. If I put it away, I need it for research purposes. What do I do? It’s a time for a change.

Just stop doing those things, that’s how anyone breaks any habit.

Sticking with it is the trick.

You know you need to make substantial changes in your approach to your discipline towards your school work. If you don’t have one, get an alarm clock and set it to take just 30 minute naps….then when you wake up, put your cell phone in a zip-lock baggie, wrap it 50 times with Duct Tape so it has zero chance to interrupt you study time. If the duct tape doesn’t work for you drop then phone in a bucket of paint.

The thing is… I do set my phone for 30 minute alarm. However, I ALWAYS ignore it. I press the red button for it to shut off without my knowing. It drives me crazy—I don’t know why I do that.

I stayed in the library and finished my homework before going home. Could this be something that you are interested in? You could get two smartphones one for business and the other leasure and turn the leasure phone off while studying.

How about setting up a clear schedule for when to rest, when to relax and when to work? The schedule may help you focus on one thing at a time. Stick to your schedule like it’s your school schedule. Over time you will get used to it.

You’re gonna have to sit down and schedule your life a little better so you’re doing your homework first, powering off your phone then sleeping through the night. Tired people eat junk food alot to try to feel good when all you really need is sleep.
I hope you can muster the will power to break this habit because it only gets harder as you get older. When you have kids you get very little sleep for the first few years to the point where you literally want to cry, but you have to deal with it.

It sounds like you come home, eat a lot and then are sleepy (which is what happens when people eat a lot). Try not to eat so much when you come home and then maybe you won’t be sleepy. It’s not good for you to eat a lot and then be sedentary.

It’s not clear what you mean by “Whenever I come back from home.”
Do you mean after a weekend home visit?

You come home from where? How often?
You overeat, lay down, and sleep for 2+ hours. Okay.

When is it midnight or 1 in the morning? When you get home, when you nap, or when you try to start your regular sleep cycle?

Please clarify your question?

Look at the food you eat. Is it high in carbs? Is it starchy? If so, that will make you sleepy. It can be almost like a sleeping pill, except people don’t realize it because they eat carbs all day and then supplement that with coffee, soda, chocolate and other things that give them a boost.

Could you make a pact with a friend or family member, have them help you stay on track?

Try eating less when you get home. You should be able to take a short nap without going into a food coma.

Thanks everyone. I do feel like whenever I eat a lot, I do get sleepy. I will try to cut down on food when I get home. I still don’t know about the naps or my phone!

So you want to change your habits but question is how??
Step 1: Waking up early: Wake up early, go for a jog or join a gym or play some outdoor sports. Come back home and go for a bath. This will make you active throughout the day (It does for me!! ).
Step 2: Make a note of everything you eat throughout the day for a period of time (may be 1 month!). This may look foolish but do it!! You will come to know when you become hungry and what all stuff you eat!! After sometime you will see the pattern of your hunger and your eating habits, and slowly try to eliminate the wrong timings of eating.Whenever you feel hungry and want to eat something, write it down. Keep fruits and healthy stuff with you so that you can eat when you become hungry.This will not only fill your hunger but also make you healthy. Most importantly, Drink lots and lots of water throughout the day!!
Step 3: Make a note of your priorities for the next day before going to sleep. Work accordingly and try to fix timings for each of your works as prioritized. Homework is important, i hope!!
Step 4: Switch off your smartphone as it makes people dumb and not smart(seriously!) and go to sleep. Since you woke up early, exercised, worked all day, you will be tired and fall asleep fast and have a good sleep.
Try to do this routine. Not only your napping sessions will go but you will be back, better and stronger!!

You had to learn that habit. Learn a new one. Learn two or three or more so you have a choice of habits.
