Would you donate your organs after you're gone?

Asked by imrainmaker (8380points) March 22nd, 2016

It’s life changer / saver for those who are in need of a replacement. Would you consider doing it?

I plan on using mine all up first. The old ” slide out sideways, body all used up, wine in one hand, chocolate in the other saying ” whee, whatta ride!” lol
Whatever is left and salvagable, sure, harvest away.
I have one bum kidney but they can have the other, my eyesight is foggy in my middle age so there goes the corneas, heart will be totally worn out.

I’m a hedonist at heart, literally. have some arterial calcification in my mid-50’s now, nothing that’s going to kill me, yet anyway. Skins still nice, I could donate grafts to a burn unit or something. haha

I also have a rare blood type and have already been giving my blood, as a universal donor, O-.

Only to someone who wants to eat them.

Yeah. And I will according to my driver’s license.

Yes. I like the idea that my body would make someone else’s life more convenient.

janbb's avatar

Yes – I’m an organ donor.

elbanditoroso's avatar

Of course. What use do I have for them?

@Espiritus_Corvus Want to swap sometime?

Of course, I won’t need them anymore.

Since I have a bizarre immune system I’m not sure, however, if I’d be eligible to give organs? I know I’m not allowed to donate bone marrow sadly. Regardless, I’d like my body to go to good use. I can still donate to science if I can’t donate organs.

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

Sure. I won’t need them.

It seems a darn sight more sensible to donate them after I die, than now!
Yes, they can have all of the parts they want. Whatever is left should make very good Soylent Green.

They won’t accept my kidneys and liver.

If only they could make use of my brain.

Organ donor was always on my drivers licence. These days I have MS and don’t think they would want to use my organs, although I don’t actually know. I would be more than happy if parts of my body are used for medical research though.

Also an ID organ donor. The only reason I wouldn’t, per se, is if I chose to specifically donate my body to science (my love for science and my love for the environment are currently at odds here).

Coloma's avatar

@PriceisRightx26 Well, what about a compromise, maybe a radio collared cougar or condor could consume you. lol
I’d love to be tossed out for the wild life, nothing would go yo waste.

@Coloma Tibetan sky burial?

I’m definitely in the realm for a green burial of some sort (which translates to non-traditional; i.e, no embalming, no cremation). Not opposed to being a food source (plant or animal), but I would prefer to offer some educational use out of this meat-suit of mine. I’m leaning towards a body farm, because I think I can request natural decomp. Leaning away from cadaver labs, as there are a lot of toxic preservatives used.

I’m a donor.
And have the orange sticker on the back of my black motorcycle helmet to prove it.

@Mariah and @Adagio You can probably donate corneas for transplant or eyes for research. Almost anyone can.

I expect my organs to be used to the extent that they are wanted, as long as some part of my body can be used for a proper religious burial.

@PriceisRightx26 The body farm is pretty cool, vaguely remember hearing about them once upon a time. I wonder how they keep animals away, I did see one picture on Google of several vultures picking the skeleton clean on one corpse.

Of course, I have a donor sticker on my driver’s licence. I can’t think of any reason not to donate. I’ll be dead and somebody else might be able to live with my organs.
