If Trump decides to call it quits after one term will Hillary take another crack at it?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) December 19th, 2016

Say in the next four years because of age, maybe health, or the rigors of being Commander and Chief had Trump calling it quits after one term in the Oval Office, would Hillary think of taking another crack at it, and would that be a good thing if she did? Even if Trump hung around for two terms there is still a chance Hillary would take another crack rather than doing a ”Ted Kennedy” and calling it quits on trying to get to the Oval Office, but if Trump bows out in four years the temptation would be greater than having to wait eight years. If such happened, would she have a better chance, and would it be better if she ran then?

Well, she is 69 years old now so she would be 73. If she is still in good health, I could see her running again. But then her husband looks like he is in poor health, so she may not want to put him through the rigors of running for office.
In my opinion only, I think she has lost her chance at ever becoming president. She lost twice and I think the democrats are ready to move on and find a better candidate. I voted for her.

The DNC will put a huge amount of pressure on her not to. If you’ve lost to Trump, the least-liked candidate in memory, you are not electable.

^Nailed it!

A political party would have to be stupid to run the same consistently unpopular loser a third time.
Then again they did it a second time so maybe they are indeed stupid.

The DNC would not run her if the people did not vote for her to be the nominee. If there is no way to stop her from running how can they stop her from running of she chose to, however ill-advised it would be? In four years a new crop of young democrats might not remember because they were too young to care right now, or as attention spans go, have forgotten.

I doubt she’d want to. So many people were so mean to her, including democrats. Now we have democrats (the loudest ones) wanting the party to move more and more left, and I don’t think that’s what she is. She is more pragmatic. Plus, she is getting older, and although it must be a huge disappointment for her, I can’t imagine she wants to go through campaigning again.

I don’t see half the negatives people talk about her. “They” say she doesn’t smile, isn’t personable, doesn’t connect with people, and I just don’t see her that way at all. If you disagree with her policy decisions fine, but the other stuff is media bullshit in my opinion, and people with load mouths controlling the message and manipulating the people.

It makes me sick.

First, you make the assumption that Trump lasts four years. My guess is that he either resigns or is indicted (or impeached) long before that.

Second, I am sure Hillary has had it. I don’t see her taking all the shit she had to take one again. It’s not worth it.

My guess is that it will be someone like Schumer, or maybe Tony Fox, or maybe some of the up-and-comers from California. But it sure won’t be Clinton again.

I have NO idea why anyone would want to be president. Let alone go through what she just endured again.

Hopefully she ,and the DNC have learned from this, and she will enjoy her remaining years in retirement.

Elizabath Warren. Calling it now.

I know she campaigned her ass off and it’s got to be a huge, huge disappointment not winning. I think she’s disgusted, done and sitting back to watch the shit show that will be the Trump presidency.

I don’t know why anybody would want to be a politician of any kind. I work for a politician and I see you’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t, are always looking for the next vote, looking to appear to please people and work for them even if you don’t. I saw Joe Biden on one of the nightly talk shows and he said “in politics, it’s not what you do but why are you doing it.” He nailed it. You don’t know who you can trust, people who are friends with you just to get near you, you have people stabbing you in the back, you have things change on a daily basis – alliances, enemies, people who are useless who stir the shit, people who are helpful, it goes on. By the way, politics is not just for politicians. There are office politics that are the same thing, same shit.

@jca I feel like her not being president is like me never having children. It feels like it was something that was supposed to happen. Something that willl always be an empty hole.

I guess everyone has that in one way or another. I have a couple of those things in life. Maybe more than a couple if I really let myself think about it.

She must be in some sort of depression. I can’t imagine she just easily walks away from it all without going through a lot of emotions. Although, I do think she is able to see the bright side of not having to deal with the crap and stress that would have come along with it.

She might be but the bigger question is whether the party elite would be stupid enough to push her as the nominee-du-jour again. Stupid Bastards.

jonsblond's avatar

No. If she can’t beat the worst candidate who ever ran how could she ever have a better chance?

I don’t think so.

zenvelo's avatar

Nope, she missed her shot twice, 2008 and 2016. She can choose to run again like Mike Huckabee, but she wouldn’t get anyone to fund her.

While I like Elizabeth Warren, The Democrats need someone younger. I want Kamala Harris in 2020.

elbanditoroso's avatar

@zenvelo – I agree about Harris, but not for 2020. Several reasons:

1) too new, doesn’t have a national presence. She needs to make one over the the next 8–10 years.

2) after a female candidate got beaten, the Dems are going to go “safe” and nominate a male, probably white male, in 2020. They’re not going to experiment.

janbb's avatar

I would love to see Warren run but I agree with @elbanditoroso‘s analysis. I’ve read that Biden is thinking of running – I wonder. Maybe someone new and male, and Warren for VP?

elbanditoroso's avatar

Except that he would be too old (he is 74 now) – I would vote for Mike Bloomberg – no questions asked.

JLeslie's avatar

I was pretty turned off by Warren during the election. I like so much about her, I was bothered that I was feeling that way.

I like the jelly suggestion above regarding Schumer running. I like Biden fine, but as it has been said, he’s getting old too.

I don’t think Bloomberg will do it. He loves NYC. I have seen him talk about how important where you live is for happiness. He is also in his 70’s.

zenvelo's avatar

One strong take-away from the election is – the Democrats need to gently thank the Baby Boomers for their service and ask for their guidance as a new generation takes control.

ragingloli's avatar

I think that she will run again.
She just craves that throne.

janbb's avatar

Hillary is done. Whether she wants to run again or not, she will not get the party nod. It’s time to move on.

rojo's avatar

You are all assuming there are going to be further elections…....

JLeslie's avatar

^^Stop it. Lol. That’s the same shit some right wingers were saying about Obama. Please don’t sound like them. I can’t stand hearing the same words coming out of the other side evey time the power shifts.

cazzie's avatar

Biden, if there are any more elections, which I’m already beginning to doubt. We have reasons to think this other than the colour of his skin.

NerdyKeith's avatar

I extremely doubt it. There would be a better chance of Al Gore running again.
