Have you ever gone back to a hairstylist when you got a haircut you didn't like and what was their response?
I just got a haircut at an upscale salon in SF (Oxenrose) and the haircut ended up to be more boring and conservative than I was hoping for. I kind of want to call back and see if I can get a touch up but I don’t want to go through with it if the stylist is secretly going to think I am an annoying client. It was my first time going to her if that matters. I got the cut over a week ago but have been out of town. Thoughts? Any stylists on Fluther want to comment?

yes….i.‘ve done it twice. the first time was because the stylist was new and didn’t know what she was doing. I went back the next day and the mgr said, “I wondered when you were coming back.” he was very cool about it and fixed my hair. the second time I didn’t get enough taken off, so I went back and told them I needed more cut off. they were cool about it, but I felt bad that I didn’t say something before I left the first time.
Dear sweet Emily, Repeat after me; “The person who pays the bill is the boss.”
I’ve done it once. Everyone was pleasant.
Hi! I did it one time. I figured after I spent a small fortune for hi-lites, low-lites and a cut, something needed to look different! I knew something was wrong when I was paying and the receptionist asked if I decided against color. I wasn’t sure what to do, I went home, looked for the color change and it just wasn’t there. I called the manager the next day and she brought me in when my stylist wasn’t there. A few hours later, I walked out with what I originally paid for. I was upfront, truthful and respectful…kept my hotheaded side in check…that helps. :)
I was always afraid to speak up, but realized that I was paying for a service, I deserved it to actually be done! :)
Once at a very expensive salon. I had the exact cut I wanted, and was cutting off really long hair, so was quite disappointed that it wasn’t what I wanted. I was almost out the door, but then turned around and said that it wasn’t really what I wanted, grabbed a pad and drew it for her. Then she did it exactly how I wanted it.
I did it. I had gone to my stylist for years, and she had always done a great job, but one time I asked for something completely different from usual (we took off 10 inches), and it turned out horrible. I came back, and she cut it again for free, and wasn’t angry about it at all. It looked slightly better, but I knew that with my new short hair I had to find a different stylist. My best advice is to call the salon, explain to the receptionist exactly what happened and what you want, and don’t be afraid.
