I’m a 4/10 split, but I also like Capaldi, though his stories suffer from Moffat’s horrible writing.

The best Companion is Martha Jones.

The Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman). Too bad they only had a few episodes together. Capaldi easily conveyed that the Doctor had vast knowledge and wisdom. I liked Clara, because even as she respected the Doctor, she did not hold him up like a god.

McCoy and Ace.

I was into Dr. Who during the Tom Baker tenure so very partial to his version of the Dr. as well as all of his companions. I liked River Song – Alex Kingston the best as she was a nice mix of beauty, brains and brawn.

Without a doubt, David Tennant and Billy Piper. That whole story line just broke my heart. Matt Smith is growing on me, and I will always love Tom Baker, but those two are my favorites!

Tom Baker is the Doctor & his jelly babies are the best “companion”

That being said, Chris Eccleston had the best stories/adventures, his was the last Doctor I watched as David Ten-inch grinds on my tit ends.

Tom Baker (4th Doctor) and Romana.

Tom Baker made the Doctor Who character something it wasn’t before, and still is now, which is the main part that I like. That is, a certain style of the clever, funny, irreverant, witty, quirky bits, particularly the parts that don’t quite take himself or the situation entirely seriously, while still taking them seriously. David Tennant (10th Doctor) said his favorite was Tom Baker too, and Tennant is probably my second-favorite doctor, except I do like the old style shows, so my second is close between Tennant and John Pertwee (3rd Doctor).

I don’t have a favourite doctor but Karen Gillan is my favourite companion by far.

Four (Tom Baker) was the Doctor when I was a kid, and he kind of defined Doctor Who for me. I have to say now that Ten (David Tennant) is my all-time favourite Doctor.

God, I’ve never heard anyone call Three a favourite, @Zaku! What a misogynist ass he was!

The companions are a tough choice… in the ‘olden times’, I probably liked Romana and Leela best. From the new series, Donna Noble and Amy Pond. I also liked Rory quite a lot when he wasn’t in a full daze. I feel like people think of him as being Amy’s companion, which isn’t entirely fair.

And I liked the concept of River Song. She was a brilliant idea, but I didn’t much care for her as a person. I know a lot of people love Alex Kingston, but I think she was miscast in that role.

@dappled_leaves I haven’t watched Three for many years now. I don’t remember thinking of him as misogynistic exactly, though I remember he was sometimes aloof-jerkish and had problems relating to Jo Grant which I don’t exactly remember what they were – something about not trusting her competence and/or being afraid for her safety and/or thinking the should do something different? Hmm, guess I’ll have to watch some of those again some time.

What I liked about three were the ways I felt he was more like four than most of the others, though without the same humor/irreverence. When Three regenerated as Four, it seemed plausible that they were the same spirit, but with more humor added. When Four regenerated as Five, it felt like we’d lost much of Four’s spark, which even seemed to fade further as time went on, and still more with the later regenerations.

I only know nu-Who, starting with Christopher Eccleston. He was wonderful. And I love hating every new Doctor (“HE’S not the Doctor! WTF!!!”) for an episode and then loving the new Doctor. The same with the companions.

Maybe I love Donna best as a companion, because she had her memory wiped and has no idea about the adventures she lived. I want her to know again, I feel protective.

Best Doctor? Wow, that’s difficult. Maybe Matt Smith, because he seemed too young to be smart enough, but he owned the role from minute one.

I like so many of them for different reasons. One of my favorite scenes in the whole collection is when Dr XIII says this to Clara:

Run like hell, because you always need to;
laugh at everything, ‘cause it’s always funny…
Never be cruel, and never be cowardly;
and if you are, always make amends.

Words to live by…
