Remake of Dirty Dancing... will you watch?

Asked by Patty_Melt (17513points) May 20th, 2017

I just saw the trailer, a made for tv Dirty Dancing.
I couldn’t possibly think of watching without Patrick Swayze in it.
Am I alone? Do any of you plan to watch?

I told my my husband to tape it. I hope he did.

That story reminds me so much of going to the Catskills with my grandparents when I was little. We learned to dance, the teenagers who worked there I would bet dated each other.

Yup, I’ll give the remake a chance.

Nah, I’m not really into musical romantic type movies. I prefer suspense, adventure, mystery, thrillers, dramas, biographies and historical period pieces.
Out of all the movie genres romance and musicals are my least favorite followed by sci-fi, depending on the plot. As a woman I could never understand the love affair with romance novels and films. Ugh..just so not interesting to me.

@Patty_Melt I didn’t know they were making a remake. I’d be hard not just without Patrick Swayze but Jennifer Grey. That was one of my favorite films. However, my love of dance will probably want to see a remake.

Makes me want to rewatch the original.

I don’t really remember the original and I’m with Coloma – not really into romance or musicals. I probably wouldn’t watch it unless it had something very appealing like a great cast.

I did not watch the first one. Not watching the remake either.

Ah, I wanted to watch it but forgot.

Fun fact: my cousin wrote a couple songs in the original movie one of which was the song at the prom where I first kissed my wife.

So I guess you won’t be introducing your cousin to ragingloli anytime soon…..

^^ Probably not.

I actually only met him once at a family reunion when I was a kid. He’s my third cousin I think.

Never even saw the first one, not my type of film.

I saw 10 minutes of it. I thought it was horrible and they did a very bad job of selecting the actors. I can’t help but think if these people were in the original Dirty Dancing, the movie would never have made it.

I just wrote a Q about the cast. It was castes really poorly.

Messing was good in her part, but I didn’t necessarily like that they expanded that character.

The lead role, Baby, was horrible. How they picked that actress I will never understand. Trying too hard to get the average, not very sexy, needs to lose 20 pounds, girl. It was almost ridiculous to think they were going to still do the big scene where she flies through the air into a lift during the final dance.

In the very last scene where they show Baby years later she looked great.

Also, the Penny role, the girl who helps teach Baby to dance, and gets preggers, it was hard for me to watch her dance. It seemed like it wasn’t natural enough.

No bueno. Disappointing.

I wonder what 16 year olds thought? Maybe I’m too old.

The girl who played baby has been an actress a long time. She is cute, and has done a lot of stuff.
I saw her on a talk show last night, and she said something which explains a lot.
Dirty Dancing is her mom’s favorite movie, and has always envisioned her daughter someday playing Baby.
There you go. Rich stage mom.
