Why is there no website like Yelp, for doctors?

Asked by 2davidc8 (10189points) April 22nd, 2018

Looking for a website where patients rate doctors.
There are a few websites, to be sure. But the sample size of the reviews is much too small.

Probably because medical care, particularly in the mental health sector, is so stigmatized it deters people from leaving reviews since it publicizes their interaction with that doctor or medical system.

Really, most Doctors don’t have 10,000 patients where a sample size of 300 responses, would show something..
They have a much smaller group of patients. Sample size has to be compared to total population.

Most doctors are on Yelp, so there’s that.

@funkdaddy I’ve looked up on Yelp all the doctors that I know and not one of them is there.

Doesn’t everyone hate going to the doctor? Even if they are great it still means something hurt and I had to go in. Of course I am going to leave a horrible review. Top notch prostate exam.

Doesn’t the healthgrades.com site have that? Some of the insurance companies let you review on their website also I think? I’m not sure about that.

It’s true that usually there aren’t very many reviews though. It’s so difficult finding a doctor you like. Good luck with it. It’s horrible for me, because I tend to assume the doctor is incompetent and doesn’t give a shit until they prove otherwise. I’ve had a lot of negative experiences. Luckily, I have had some good experiences too.

Not enough reviews on Healthgrades. If a doctor is on there at all, he/she will have 2, 3, or at most 5 reviews. Hard to make a decision based on that.

The doctor–patient relationship is just too complex.

I’ve tried working backwards. I have asked doctors if their mother needed X doctor, who would they suggest? I’ll ask the same question to multiple other doctors (and nurses). The results are often valuable.
