I was happiest as an instrument technician and specifically when I worked river surveys deploying instrumentation

I will just go through the ones before and during college.

First job was a movie theater. Like literally my job experience was N/A. I was 19. I started cleaning theaters and tearing tickets. Three years later I was going around Oregon fixing projectors.

Next job was making MOSFETS in a clean-room. We had astronauts talk to us because we were making parts that went on the International Space Station. This was a horrible job. But it is cool to know I made stuff that went into space.

Next job was Janitor (I had just started college so it was good hours). Class during the day and 30 tampon receptacles at night. This actually wasn’t terrible. We were allotted 4 hours a night to clean. I got it down to 90 minutes. So I spent the extra 2.5 hours eating Doritos and doing homework.

Then I moved and things went to shit. My sister had been subsidizing my rent to watch her cats. So I moved from Eugene to Portland with one of her shithead friends.

Dude was a drunk with a thyroid problem. His body never said to pass out so I cowered in my room for months while he came home drunk and beat up my toaster oven. I am not joking.

So broke as fuck I sit in a Labor Ready lobby hoping to get some cash even if it meant mopping all day.

But I get word that Kodak is hiring. I roll the dice and spend what is pretty much the last of my cash (bus) to go down and apply. End up getting the job…. A good job at that. And my sister floats me cash to move in with people that don’t get so drunk I can hear them threatening to beat up my faggot ass.

And that is just the start and I am tired of typing. And the theater was by far the best. I masturbated and ate Cinnebon all day.

Most of my jobs have been doing things for Russians and other foreign agencies that make little sense to me. Like continually setting coffee pots / brewers in front of retail businesses, trespassing with the intent of getting caught but not offering explanation and having no malicious intent or making phone calls and hanging up six nights in a row, or putting nondescript signs in odd places and documenting how long it takes for people to remove them.

I have also served as a minister in a church in Northeast Alabama. My favorite jobs have been camp counselor positions or program staff in Afterschool Activity programs—where I can be creative and do whatever works in facilitating the programs and interacting with the kids.

The one I liked the most was probably my second job, which was working in a movie theater. It was fun, saw all my friends, got to watch any movie I wanted for free plus all you can eat popcorn.

Valet Car Parker in high school was fun and paid well.
Steamfitter apprentice building an oil refinery was also good, although hard work. Paid really well.
Desk clerk and night auditor at a motor lodge was okay. Pay was so-so, some people were nice, others sucked.

The most fun and the most interesting was when I was an Order Book Offical on a listed stock options exchange. I represented customer orders and oversaw trading in a pit full of market makers and floor brokers trading options on 12 stocks.

Cafeteria pan washer
Kmart clerk
Rental equipment worker
News paper headline and photograph setter
Aluminum extrusion factory worker
KFC cook
US Army medical lab tech
Civilian medical lab technologist
I preferred medical lab tech work (did it for 38 years) but honestly, I never had a job that I liked or enjoyed. But I was always very greatful for the opportunity that each job offered.

@Yellowdog 1st paragraph: What? Seriously?

@KNOWITALL :: Movie theater was the best. My sisters good twin last year got her license and my sister said we will get you a old ass Volvo for 2K if you get a job.

So I called up my old general manager and got the kid a job at a theater near her house.

She loves it. It is a fun job.

Retail sales, manager, and buyer. I also worked on the vendor side merchandising and writing orders.

I’ve worked as a business manager in several industries.

Administrative assistant in several industries.

I liked being a fragrance and cosmetic buyer best. I liked running the numbers, meeting with the account executives, and I was great at it. The only negative about it was having to work 45 plus hours weekly, because we were buyers in store. I also managed almost 30 associates at the same time. Well, I had counter managers for the cosmetic lines, but I was the direct manager for fragrances.

My very first job was working retail in the mens department. I absolutely loved it. I got to dress up all kinds of men like my very own ken dolls. LOL Till today, I pick out all of my husbands suits and ties and shoes for work. He is always complimented. I love mens clothing and men dressed in suits. Guys are so easy to dress. There is no drama and no matter the size, a well tailored suit can be very flattering. But mostly, I love that guys aren’t really picky. I use to love to get them to buy really snazzy suits or snazzy outfits. They were always a guarantee repeat customer when they would get compliments from wives or girlfriends. Never had a cranky customer. I would always steer them to quality stuff for the money they were willing to spend. You would be surprise how easily men can go from hating shopping to loving it, when they get compliments.

^How different it would have been if you were working in women’s department..)

@imrainmaker Oh, I also worked in the womens department some years later. Hated every minute. So many women insist on trying on clothing that doesn’t fit. And if you get them something you think may be flattering on them and they don’t like it, they get insulted. Especially if you bought it back in their actual size. Even the skinny ones can get nasty if a dress doesn’t give them miracle curves that they don’t have.
They would stretch an break clothing and blame it on the clothing, claiming it was cheap. The fact they were trying on an outfit 2 sizes too small wasn’t the reason. I find a lot of women small or large do not have a realistic view of their body. Men were more accepting of how they are. Well men use too. I don’t know if it’s the same today since more men are into fashion then they were back then. I think the same exist for women today.
