How come the Democrats seem so quiet this midterm?

Asked by SQUEEKY2 (23138points) October 24th, 2018

Trump is out there feeding his loyal followers his BBQ bullshit on a bun.
Where are the Democrats, they seem very quiet right now, shouldn’t they be out there feeding their followers with truth sandwiches?
The Republicans have already said the problem isn’t the debt Trump has racked up.
It’s those evil entitlement programs, social security, health care, and medi-caid.
Gee what lower and middle class Americans depend on.
Why are the Democrats not screaming this from the roof tops?

The Dems are campaigning heavily over all the platforms (TV, social media, print) that I follow.
Not sure what you mean.

I don’t get a lot of US tv and what I see on our news they seem very quiet, Trump is always there with his insults and lies, but we hear very little from the democrats.
Maybe PM me a few links if you could @canidmajor Thanks.

I really can’t (honestly sorry) because of the time. But google various senate races (most notably, Beto O’Rourke in Texas against Ted Cruz), the gubernatorial election in Georgia, and other contentious races.
Realize, too, that what Cheeto Amin does and says is likely to generate international news coverage, where local (here) isn’t.

Have fun.

In my state there are tons of ads on TV from both parties.

Edit: where I live the Democrats did a golf cart march for the Dems, and a lot of Democrats are wearing buttons and speaking out even though my area is majority Republican. Traditionally, many democrats here avoided talking politics, because they know most people around them don’t agree with their POV, but recently that is changing.

Same in Missouri, tons of ads, very contentious races.

Lots going on from the Dems including lots of friends who are canvassing. I get fundraising emails every day from all across the country.

You have to remember that since we don’t have the Presidency we don’t have a national pulpit although Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, Joe Biden and others are certainly speaking out and promoting other candidates.

There is a lot of energy out there.

Most democrats are establishment shills who don’t want to implement universal healthcare.

@rockfan I see a real mix in who’s running. There are many running for Congress who are progressive and many more mainstream. I don’t know that your statement is true.

I was referring to Democrats already in office

The problem I see is that neither side really has a solid platform. Most campaigning has come down to trying to prove your opponent is sleazier than you are. There are a couple that try blasting the socialist talking points, but when questioned about the details they go deer-in-the-headlights. US Politics are pretty sad. Write your congressman and Senator and tell them to push Term Limits!

KNOWITALL's avatar

@seawulf In ours, they are slamming eachother personally but talking points are fairly even. We’ll see if the easy moderate act works and for whom.

Deer in the headlights? I’ve seen quite the opposite. Whenever I see a justice democrat who doesn’t take corporate pac money, and that support universal healthcare, they back up their points very intelligently. They’re quick to point out that they don’t favor pure socialism

I saw a TV ad the other day, “This campaign free moment brought to you by… ”
I wish they weren’t in another town. I would do business there just to let them know I appreciate their humor and enjoyed the moment between campaign ads.

I am glad to stand corrected, glad to see the democrats hard at it.

Where I live, they are alive & roaring. Jkust because the news has chosen to ignore it doesn’t mean that it’s not happening!!!

As a matter of fact, there was a bus load of senior citizens from a nursing home in the Atlanta area who were turned back for some hokey reason who had planned on requesting to vote early because they wouldn’t have transportation on election day. That one got hushed up real fast!!!

SergeantQueen's avatar

If they are “quiet” to you then maybe it’s because you live in Republican area?

So then you probably aren’t just paying attention to multiple news sources

We aren’t noisy and obnoxious.

Democrats don’t need to say anything. Trump and the other outspoken Republicans are doing it for them.
