Has your body ever clamored for something specific to eat...but you have no idea what it is?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46849points) February 7th, 2019

I had a decent breakfast…an Egg McMuffin and half of a hash brown just 3 hours ago, so I shouldn’t be hungry so soon, but I am. I’m sitting here and my body is yelling for something else and I don’t know what it is!
Has this ever happened to you?

Yes, it’s usually kimchi….haha!

Sounds like you’ve already asked this in the past. It seems that spontaneous hunger is still your recurrent symptoms.

Yes, this happen quite often to me too. I have a high metabolism after all. For me, anything will do so long as it’s filling. You might not know what you’re craving for but so long as your stomach is filled with any (yummy) food it will stop pestering you.

I pretty much trust my body to tell me what vitamins or nutrients I’m low on. It’s not fool proof, of course (I mean, I was craving McDonald’s cheeseburgers when I was pregnant…and ONLY McDonald’s cheeseburgers!) but it does a good job and I try to listen to it.

What I REALLY want is some broccoli in soup or just by itself, but we don’t have any and it’s too damn cold to go out. Lasagna will just have to do.

@Dutchess_III That sounds sooooo good. I’ve been craving good homemade veggie soup with crackers, yummy.

Lasagna sucked. :( It’s supposed to be 5 cheese, but all I saw was some Mozzarella on top of of some noodles, all swimming in a boatload of tomato sauce. :(

My gran used to call this your stomach thinks your throats been cut, bless…dementia can be cruel.

janbb's avatar

@ucme My Northern FIL used to say that too.

ucme's avatar

@janbb Yeah, so many funny old sayings, she would also say she was so hungry she could eat the hole from a doughnut.

janbb's avatar

@ucme Another of his was “I’ll just have one more to tell the others there’s no more coming.”

My gramma used to say, “If at first you don’t succeed…keep on a suckin’ till you do suck a seed!”

@ucme Must be one of your saucy role models. Sounds like a fun grandmother!

I suppose after Christmas season with sweets abound , the body got accustomed to all that sugar consumption. So i assume it craves sweets?
I usually have one small cany or a smal square of chocolate to calm my cravings.

Dutchess_III's avatar

No. I recognize sweets cravings. I’ll eat a spoonful of brown sugar for that since I don’t keep candy in the house.
This was different.

You were probably actually thirsty.

I think I have it figured out. That lasagna didn’t get it…if it had had some decent veggies in it it might have, but it didn’t. It was all pasta and sauce.
Going for Mexican tonight! Going to get a shrimp quesadillas. It’ll have bell peppers and mushrooms and cheese and yum! I bet that will shut this craving up. ;)
