Which Hollywood celebrity have you seen in person?

Asked by mazingerz88 (28832points) April 14th, 2020 from iPhone

My friend and I once crossed paths with John Lithgow in a park in Beverly Hills. He was walking his dog. Really tall fellow.

Saw Cybil Shepherd having dinner in an Italian restaurant many years ago in LA. Looked exactly like how I remembered her from her TV series Moonlighting. A beauty.

Not a Hollywood celebrity exactly but was walking somewhere in Manhattan once and passed by a guy, tall and slim just standing there outside a building. Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

I met Halle Berry. She was not as tall as I believed.

^^Ohhhh…wish I did too. Over a dinner date! Sigh.

I went to high school with Tom Hanks.
I have met Giancarlo Giannini, Robin Williams, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
I have also bumped into, but didn’t have conversations with Cybil Shepherd and Donald Sutherland.

While working in DC, they were filming All The President’s Men & I got to meet Dustin Hoffman & Robert Redford. Two very lovely, kind men. Hoffman was a tiny little squirt…much shorter than I had anticipated!!! His bio claims that he’s 5’5–½” but I’m 5’5” & I was looking down to talk with him.

I went to middle school with Arthur Napiontek. Not a huge celebrity, but he did get some nice roles in some movies and does modeling. He played in a few part of the Pineapple Express. Not sure what all he has coming up now, but he does live in Hollywood. And that is all, as whom I’ve met and known personally.

Edmonton, Alberta Mayoral candidate in 1995 ,Brad Checknita’s, locker was next to mine. He got 10,000 votes. I would have run with him but I lost my perfect attendance award because I went to the Optimists international meeting in the states.

Redd Foxx. I was getting a ride to work when I was in Las Vegas and we pulled up beside his pink Cadillac at a stop light on the strip.

I met Canadian finance minister Paul Martin in 1997 and had a hand squeezing match with him for 10 seconds.

Back in 66, I found myself pulling the Bush st hill on foot next to Henry Fonda for nearly a block. I was in good shape then but puffing with exertion. I only remember asking him “what are YOU doing WALKING?” It cracked him up.

Blythe Danner (spent the day with her when I was a teenager) Molly Ringwald, Sarah Jessica Parker, Chris Noth, Ashley Judd, (but I paid a ticket to see Ashley and Gloria Steinem and Ashley’s mom was about 10 feet from me at one point) I’m sure there are others not coming to me right now. I’ve seen plenty of shows being filmed and not known an actors name or not known the actor(s) at all.

Are we counting singers we have seen not in concert? Patti Labelle at a restaurant. I went to school with Mark Bryan from Hootie and the Blowfish.

Also, not sure if you want to count these: several race car drivers, but I would need my husband to remind me who I have met, and I saw Monica Lewinsky.

In December, 1956 Elvis Presley appeared at our Cub Scouts’ function and signed an 8X10 color glossy of himself for me.

I posed with Jayne Mansfield when I was 15, which was 2 years before baby Mariska was born.

In December, 1967 we saw the Animals at the Whiskey A GoGo.
After their gig, the bassist and major Jimi Hendrix advocate, Chas Chandler, rushed up to where I was sitting and shook my hand.
I didn’t know him then and I still don’t personally know Chas, so the only explanation I can give for that is that I emanated such strong “I love Hendrix” vibes that they drew him to me like some majorly strong stoner tractor beams.

Sometime in the middle 70’s I was at a laundromat.
Somebody grasped my hand and started shaking it.
I looked up and it was Jon Voight asking me to vote for I don’t remember whom.
I said, “I’ll vote for him if you read my screenplay about a paralyzed Vietnam war vet”. ;~)

I was shopping at a Whole Foods in Sherman Oaks. I saw this guy wearing a hat that caught my attention.
I forgot what I asked him and what he replied, but Geena Davis joined our conversation.
Either she was fascinated with our conversation or she was with him; probably the latter. ;-)
I wound up asking her if there was going to be a “Thelma and Louise” sequel. She replied, “No, they were pretty much squished”.

I saw James Cromwell at a local health food store.
He was wearing a t-shirt advocating a Native American cause.
I said, “I like your t-shirt. I think the de facto genocide committed against Native Americans is shameful.”
He replied, “It wasn’t de facto, it IS genocide.”
I stood corrected and about 8 inches shorter than him.

I saw Jay Leno at the aforementioned Whole Foods in 2007(?).
I asked him if it was true that Conan was going to take over the Tonight Show in 2009.
He mumbled something as he made his escape.

I saw Leno’s band leader, Kevin Eubanks at a health food restaurant in West Hills.
I said, “I remember Jay making fun of your gesture of shooting a basketball. Where does he get off making fun of you? I mean, how strong is Jay’s game?”
He LHAO so I LMAO too. :-D

Rude jerk that I was in January, 1978, I cut in front of whom I thought was just some “big fat guy” at a food counter in O’Hare airport, near Chicago. After I got my dog, I looked at the guy’s fist as it was resting on the counter and I thought, “Wow, his first is as big as my whole head!” I looked at him, and I thought he looked familiar. I later realized that it was Dick Butkus.

I sat next to Julia Stiles at a restaurant in the East village in New York. My girlfriend kicked me under the table for staring.

We went through an exhibit at The Whitney Museum at the same pace as Natalie Portman and her now husband (they were engaged then). The four of us chatted about the different pieces we saw and which ones we liked best.

Carl Malden. Nice and smart guy.

Oh, Patrick Dempsey at the race track. He would be Hollywood and a race car driver. That one I remember. I was eating in the same dining tent with him and saw him in the pits.

Mary-Kate Olsen I saw backstage at Bonnaroo, she had like three bodyguards around her and gave me a passing glance as I walked by.

I have met plenty of musicians like Bela Fleck, Billy Corgan and others at different concert venues either backstage or out in public.

Mario Van Peeples On the same plane Oahu to Maui

Howard Hughes – He had a engineering/airport in Culver City in about 1955

William Boyd—Hopalong Cassidy—Department store opening

Paul Newman – -We were both in BMW car club.

Emmett Kelly – “Weary Willie” the clown at Ringling Brothers Circus

Gabby Hayes – Hopalang Cassidy’s sidekick, his agent was in the same building my dad worked. I’d go over on Saturday morning sometimes. He drove a yellow Cadillac convertible with steer horns on the front of the hood.
