Sweden’s covid infection and death rate per capita now exceeds our own and is accelerating. So much for herd immunity optimism. In view of the protest wave and our Summer revelry, what do you anticipate?

Current statistics are unsettling to say the least. Things look bright indeed for the nation’s morticians.

The hopes for summer heat lowering the numbers is bogus. Look at the number of cases in Saudi Arabia and Mexico.

It seems to pretty much be party time on the Jersey Shore. I’m socializing with one or two people at a time, outside, their homes or mine. And walks…....

Who ever said the heat would lower the numbers is an idiot. Who was the idiot who said that? Oh. Wait.
If the numbers get lower in the summer it’ll be because people are outside more, rather than cooped up in the house.

@Dutchess_III It was just conjecture because flu season tends to be only in the winter and decrease in the summer. It was based upon no data.

1918 Flu was started in Spring and went through the Fall. Not a Winter disease.

Caravanfan's avatar

@Tropical_Willie Yes. That is true. It’s not a rule that you can’t get the flu in the summertime. It’s just that it tends to peak in winter month from year to year.

Not enough people have acquired the virus, survived, and have immunity to provide a “herd immunity” sufficient enough to benefit all persons.
(Although there were no steam trains and rapid transport systems back when the “Black Plague” smote humanity, it lasted for 15 years.)

Dutchess_III's avatar

The black plague was spread mostly by trading ships. This is horrifying.
