Do you condone the conservative argument that grandma must be sacrificed to salvage the economy?

Is this the “pragmatic” approach?

No, I don’t. I’d like to see that source, too, please.

The “source” is that “we must open up to avoid economic collapse”. THAT was the argument back in March. Was it valid then?

Isn’t democracy served best when EVERYBODY gets sick?

cookieman's avatar

No, but all my grandparents are dead already. ~

Seriously though, either the Feds step in and subsidize our group existence so we can shut down and quarantine properly OR people gotta get back to work and many people will die.

Those are really the only two choices.

The age bracket is getting younger and younger for this Pandemic, I do remember a while back the Republicans did say that Grandma and Grandpa should be willing to sacrifice themselves for the good of the country.
And Frightwingers claim the left is all hate.
@cookieman I like your answer and good luck with getting subsidized, a lot more people are going to fall victim to this so called democratic hoax of a pandemic.

Quarantine is not what “45” is saying.

Oh can’t mention his name but somebody in the White School has a child that has had their school closed for the foreseeable future ! Bet Melania is happy school is closed; not too sure about “45” !

You can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs!

But no, I don’t support that argument but I don’t know too many people actually making it. (More of a straw man at this point). I do think we need to weigh what we’re sacrificing in this pandemic and determine what’s worth it and what’s not.

kritiper's avatar

It will occur anyway in short order. Antibiotics are becoming useless, and when they truly are useless, the life expectancy will go back to where it was 150 years ago. Or worse!

Tropical_Willie's avatar

@Demosthenes You’re right !

Who needs an omelet ? ? This is a pandemic not a breakfast in bed.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

@kritiper you can’t use antibiotics for a Virus ! ! This a Virus.

@KNOWITALL The Lieutenant Governor of Texas, Dan Patrick, made reference to that in March. It was all over the news, I am surprised you missed it. I’m sure a google search will turn up stuff about it, it was towards the end of March.

I’m the grandpa and it I get it I stand 60% chance of surviving. Put it the other 40 % chance of being dead in two to three weeks.
People will not socially distance, use cloth face coverings, say it only the flu, insist there is a cheap miracle cure that Bill Gates is blocking and it’s not Trump fault that the country is out of control with new infections (because he is not responsible) I’ll agree he not a reasonable President !

It is what it is so says Donald J. Trump! With one person dying every 80 `seconds from COVID-19

The hypocrisy of the republicans is incredible.

Remember that when Congress was debating Obamacare, the republicans kept scaring people about “death panels”. And now they are OK with killing their grandmothers.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

They don’t care about sacrificing Grandma just don’t raise the taxes.

zenvelo's avatar

@elbanditoroso There are no “death panels” because the Administration isn’t deciding who gets to live, they are just figuring everyone dies.

mazingerz88's avatar

trump is the one man death panel.

Pointeman1's avatar

No I don’t. To do so would be the mark of a most uncivilized society!

The moral test of government is how that government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; those who are in the shadows of life, the sick, the needy and the handicapped.
