What irks you the most about trying to snag an appointment for a COVID vaccination?

Asked by kritiper (25757points) March 31st, 2021

My main beef? For some time, the only way to make an appointment was via the internet. What is wrong with the good ol’ telephone?? FINALLY, I found a number I could call! THANK YOU Alexander Graham Bell, 1847–1922, American (Scot.-born) inventor of the telephone.

Well, via telephone I got on The List with my regular MD. Weeks went by. Then I wandered into the Walmart Pharmacy and got on their list. They called me the next day.

Nothing irks me about it. I became eligible last week and made appointments at two sites for this week. I did it on the Internet, but there were phone numbers available. After I got my 1st dose Monday, I cancelled the other (Thursday) appointment).

I showed up early and was vaccinated within 10 minutes. The people running the site were cheerful and helpful. All the recipients were patient and calm.

I was able to schedule to get my vaccine this Friday, and signing up felt like I was entering some sort of lottery.

The hinky websites. My drop down boxes never dropped.

What irked me was in the beginning there was no information on how it would roll out over time. That availability would grow. It didn’t affect me, because I’m too young to be in the first group, but I saw people struggling with it. Although, I have to say everyone rushing in the first day clambering for a shot was a bit of insanity too. It was like the run on toilet paper all over again. People somewhat created their own misery. Obviously, not everyone can be first.

Also, the initial roll-out in my state seemed to allocate vaccine quantity by total population of each county rather than eligible population, which really bothered me.

I created a covid Facebook group and people in the group helped each other with tips on where and how to get the vaccine. We have a list of all the websites to book appointments, a list of phone numbers to book appointments, where people can go first come first serve, which locations have which vaccines, and also how to get a home visit vaccination if you are homebound.

We also have tips like to get on a Walmart Waste Avoidance list if you are not eligible for vaccination yet or don’t want to deal with making an appointment. That’s what I did, I called Walmart and they took my name and about 5 days later they called and I drove a mile and a half to my Walmart and got my shot.

I guess New York has it pretty figured out. I became eligible on the 30th, signed up that day, got in the next. In and out in a half hour. The website definitely streamlined intake.

So I took the Johnson and Johnson vaccine this morning and it is currently kicking my ass lol. But worth it.

I wasn’t irked at all. Considering the number of people wanting to be vaccinated it was obvious to me there would be some difficulty or delay in scheduling an appointment. I did the only thing I COULD do…

…wait until an appointment became available.

Getting irked would accomplish nothing other than upset myself.

And I STILL wouldn’t have gotten an appointment.

What sense does THAT make?
