Have you heard of Project 2025?

Asked by jca2 (16479points) 1 month ago

Someone posted on FB that everyone needs to read the Wikipedia article about it. I had never heard of it, and I looked it up but have not yet read all the details. Summary and link to follow:

Here’s a summary: Project 2025, also known as the Presidential Transition Project, is a collection of policy proposals to fundamentally reshape the U.S. federal government in the event of a Republican victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election. Established in 2022, the project aims to recruit tens of thousands of conservatives to the District of Columbia to replace existing federal civil servants—whom Republicans characterize as part of the “deep state”—and to further the objectives of the next Republican president.

What do you think? Had you ever heard of it?

Yes, I’ve heard of it and it’s why I’m voting for Biden with no doubt in my mind. (Even though I would have preferred someone else.)

Not so much Project 2025 as Year Zero. They seem intent on governing America with sledgehammers and smashing everything to bits. I hadn’t heard of them before and hope I don’t hear of them again.

It’s really Project 2017, that’s when it started. (Federal jurists, anybody?)

It reads like pure unadulterated fascism.

Not remotely surprised that mainstream conservative organisations and individuals are involved.

Yep, this is what fascism looks like.

This is the first I’m hearing of it and to me it’s mixed bag. The article reads like a left wing zealot wrote it so I take it with a grain of salt. But to hit some of the highlights:

This plan sounds like it is saying that the power of the Executive Branch should rest solely in the hands of the POTUS. The Wikipedia article cited makes this sound unreasonable. Yet the Constitution, Article II, states very clearly: “The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. ” So from that aspect it sounds like Project 2025 is saying we need to follow the Constitution. I don’t see that as a bad thing.

I did a little more digging (rather than trusting to Wikipedia) and went to the source. They are talking about bringing in an army of conservatives to replace bad players in the government. I’m a bit odd on this one. I think the best person for the job is the one to do it. I am a conservative, but recognize having an echo chamber is likely not going to end well.

But what are we talking about and why? We are talking about fundamentally changing the path the country is on. Most people (71%) believe the country is on the wrong track. Nobody is happy with the left wing policies and believe they are hurting the country. We have seen over the last few years the “Deep State” in action where bureaucrats are pulling the strings and taking the power from the POTUS. We have seen the weaponization of the government. Too many bureaucrats are entrenched and cannot be fired or replaced. Not elected, not appointed, but given vast powers to impact everyone. This is why this project was started.

The interesting thing I’m seeing from the comments is that as long as the government is screwed up but attacking Conservatives, everyone (on the left) is happy as clams. But as soon as the Conservatives come up with a movement to change the structure of the government employees, it is suddenly a horrible thing. I’m not for attacking leftists because they are leftists. I AM for shrinking the size and power of the federal government and removing the people that are more activists than employees.

I had not heard of it nor do I put much stock in it. If Trump wins, there’s no telling what his ‘revenge’ will entail but a lot of regular Joes? Skeptical.

Yes, and I’m not surprised. They have always had a plan.

@ragingloli That looks like a good video. I only watched a few minutes of it but will get back to it later tonight.

I thought that video was a joke. You took it serious? Wow. His own family thinks he’s nuts and you embrace him. He believes what the corrupt media spews and never questions it. Carry on.

@seawulf575 If you’re referring to me, I said it looks good but I only watched a few minutes. I am not sure where you get “embrace him.”

@jca2 No, not you. You said you hadn’t watched the whole thing, though you did say it looked good. The one that watches drivel like that is the one that was directed towards.
