Best places to travel on the cheap in Baja?

Asked by emilyrose (2272points) November 28th, 2008

I want to go to Baja for xmas/New Years. Where can I go on the cheap? I already know that Mexico is an expensive place to travel, but where could I go that is a bit off the beaten path for less? We’ll probably drive but may fly.

Mexico is expensive? Maybe our dollar is doing worse than I thought…

I’ve found some great bargains in Tijuana.

Anywhere about an hour or two over the border is cheap. Rosarito and Ensenada (one of the places cruise ships stop) are my suggestions. Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo san Lucas… those are all nice but are extremely touristy. If you go there you’re only going to pay more because everyone else and their mother goes there. Plus it’s going to suck driving to those places if you decide to do that.

Yes, I am thinking of going just outside of the places you mentioned.

From Cancun you can go to Tulum
From PV to Sayulita or Yelapa
From Cabo—I dunno have never been but that’s what lonely planet is for!

you should check out Mulege on the baja strip.. there’s really nothing there but a small village town, but the beaches around it are sweeet.
