Do you have a story from this week that brings a smile to your face?

Asked by FGS (1932points) April 17th, 2009

It was 75 degrees with not a cloud in the sky today..gorgeous. I asked my boss around lunchtime if we could go ahead and call it an “early” day. He asked what I had to do that warranted getting off early. I replied “I’m not gonna lie to you. It’s just too fucking beautiful outside to be stuck in this office”. He smiled and said “Yeah it is….see you Monday”

This morning I was washing the dishes and Balls peed on my shoe. She sat on my foot and peed. I thought it was pretty funny. shoes are in the washing machine.

A friend up the street gave me an unattractive plant with strappy green leaves during the winter and said, “Wait for the flower.” He couldn’t remember what it was called, however.

So I waited and waited. Several days ago I noticed a small bud. It opened at 10:00 AM today and was very beautiful. At 11 I took several pictures. By noon it was almost dead.

However, I had the snaps and noticed that the blossom looked like a delicate iris. Then I googled, “Tropical Iris,” brought up some images and discovered that my mystery plant is an Apostle Iris, native to the area from Brazil to southern Mexico. Under the best of circumstances, each flower blooms for only a day. http://tinyurl.com/d7hbzb

Tomorrow night is prom. I’m wearing the dress that my grandmother won Miss GHS in fifty-seven years ago. Seeing my grandmother smile lately has brought me happiness beyond compare.

I really want to give you a story but I don’t have one. I smiled plenty but that’s kind of a default setting with me.

My husband has been laid-off since January. I’ve been a stay-at-home mom for years, so we’ve both been looking for work with absolutely no luck. Today I had to borrow money from a friend for the first time… it was an awful feeling, even though she was quite lovely about the whole thing. Shortly afterward, my husband’s old boss called and offered him his job back. The company has suffered a lot due to the economy, so it’s at a $15,000/year pay cut, but I am so grateful! A regular paycheck, a company truck, and health insurance again! He starts Monday morning. :D

@augustlan I’m so happy for you! And for him! That is such amazing news! I know you’ve been praying and working for that.
@johnpowell, your dog, Balls, is amazingly cute.

My story: Wednesday night I sat down to do some planning. I hadn’t been working very hard this week. I work from home, so I think I can get away with it. On Wed night I planned my Thursday morning. I woke up and did exactly what I had planned. I got lots done. I felt great. And the guilt that normally accompanies my afternoons was gone. I’m still proud of myself for that.

My kids were on spring break this week, and yesterday I took them bowling. Watching them (try to) bowl was the funniest damn thing I’ve seen in a long time. I still laugh to myself when I think of the gutter ball that ended up in the next lane’s gutter, or the way my daughter swung the bowling ball back and forth a few times before she’d let go. They had so much fun, they didn’t even realize how badly they played the game!

Last night I saw a movie with my friends. I loved the movie; I laughed until tears came out. It was the first time I ever laughed so hard I cried. I had a great time.
