How do you import your email messages from Outlook Express on XP to Windows Mail on Vista?

Asked by ram201pa (606points) May 23rd, 2009

I had no problem with my contacts, but all my emails are proving to be a real pain. They are in a .dbx file and I can’t get them to import to WM. The import wizard does not find the file. They are not read only files. Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

found a link here with easy instructions off the MS site remember if you ever load Office 2007 onto Vista it will update you to Outlook, also you can get Live Mail or something, it was intended as a replacement for Mail that comes with Vista and its a lot better ild say…or if you like you can automate the process with this free software I used this before I switched to Ubuntu and Gmail and I can say its probably your easiest bet also backs up everything just encase!

Have you tried selecting all of your e-mails, dragging them from Outlook Express to a folder in Windows Explorer, and then dragging them back to Windows Mail? Not sure if it works with Windows Vista, but that’s what I did when I needed to transfer mails from one computer to another.
