Why is a raven like a writing desk?

Asked by thanatos (324points) September 25th, 2009

Lewis Carroll posed this question in Alice in Wonderland but when it was published the power of fluther.com was unavailable to help mortals answer it. Can anyone solve it?

It isn’t. A writing desk has different coloured feathers.

(There is a clue there.)

the can both be ink black (if you spill ink on a desk obviously). That’s probably not it but it’s a thought

In Carrol’s day they still used quills to write.

(Another clue.)

I don’t generally have much confidence in what I find at WikiAnswers, but this seems pretty definitive. I note that this answer is closed to changes.
