If you see a person who bears an uncanny resemblance to someone, would you tell them?

When I was a sophomore in art school, my friends told me I had a doppelganger on campus, some freshman chick. They ended up introducing the two of us, which was really cool and I’m glad they did it. We talked and realized that we weren’t long-lost twins or anything, we just happened to be complete strangers who looked just like each other.

Another example: One of the baristas at my local starbucks looks just like Alex de Large from A Clockwork Orange. I keep covertly staring at him to see if I’m just imagining it, but no, it’s really Alex. He’s very polite, almost obsequious, and always calls me “miss” several times while taking my order. So I’m guessing this is after he’s been brainwashed. I’m half tempted to play Beethoven’s ninth on my phone or something to see if he freaks out. I kind of want to get this off my chest so I can stop staring at the guy, but I’m worried that he either gets this all the time or would think I was crazy, and then I’d have to find a new Starbucks.

Do you guys think unrelated people can really look that much alike? Would you point it out?

Yes, I think they can look that much alike, but I usually only tell the person I already know. I’m much too shy to approach a stranger like that.

I met a waiter at a hotel lounge who looked exactly like Sinbad (this was around 1999).

I said “Sir, you look just like Sinbad!”

He laughed and pointed to his namebadge which read “Not Sinbad.”
I still crack up every time I think about that.

I bear a strong resemblance to someone in my office; she looks more like she could be my sister than my own sister does.

NO fuck no, I would never tell them they look like someone,

I’m sick and tired of people telling me I look like (or they think I’m that person) someone they know…EVERY FUCKING DAY this happens. even in other countries wile on vacation (I made $50.00 visiting Seattle… met this guy wile wandering around downtown “Hey man that was a wild party last night, here’s the fifty dollars I borrowed last night.” I flew in that morning around 10am)

If I think that person looks like someone else than I’m most likely not the only one…someone else can tell them

I secretly long to have my own personal Doppelganger.

I would tell them as long as I didn’t think they would be insulted. I don’t usually tell them unless they resemble a celebrity/singer, etc. I’ve seen a man who resembled Peter Griffin (Family Guy) but I didn’t point it out to him. However, I have seen several people who resemble celebrities such as Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman and Matt Damon. An ex of mine resembled Kat Von D.

Sometimes I do.

Yes, I tell them.

Yes, as long as that person is good looking and it doesn’t offend them. Wouldn’t want to hurt their feelings…

@seeing_red: “An ex of mine resembled Kat Von D.”

Damn, lucky you.

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard Yessssssss. We’re still good friends.

I would only tell an acquaintance, and even then, only if the person they resembled was good-looking. It would not be very thoughtful to tell someone that they looked like Rowan Atkinson, for example.

Not if they resemble my ex-wife.

When I was younger I used to, but not so much now. Although, I have to admit, I was tempted to about a fortnight ago, when I was on the bus and there was a guy sitting across the aisle who looked just like Francis Albert Sinatra did in his 60s. Yes. No lie, the nose, the cheeks, and most especially, the striking blue eyes, except he had a (well-combed) mop of white hair that the Chairman of the Board didn’t have in the 80s.

I’m sure the man wondered why I kept staring at him pop-eyed. Or maybe he didn’t. Boy, did I want to go over and shriek, “FRANKIE!!!”

I had a similar situation a few years ago. I used too attend a weekly drama club and some of the girls there said that I looked exactly like a girl that went to their school called Lorna. When I finally met Lorna I didn’t really see the resemblance but I figured that seeing as more than one person agreed that we looked alike I was obviously just missing something!

If I know a person and I think they look like someone else then I will usually tell them (I used to work with a girl that looked very similar to my brothers girlfriend for example and I told her) but I wouldn’t just approach a complete stranger to tell them that they looked like someone else.

I used to be told all the time that I look like someone the person knows. There must be hundreds of mes out there!
