Help for computer to TV cable?

Asked by faye (17857points) February 24th, 2010

I bought the cable that lets me watch a downloaded movie on my laptap on my TV. It worked just right at first but now does not. No changes in anything- I plugged it in this evening and nothing. Is there a computer-eese thing I can do? By the way, the packaging on it was like Trillion’s question and is in many pieces!

Is the TV on HDMI 1, or AV1 etc. Make sure that the channel on the TV corresponds to what port the cable is plugged in to.
Secondly, [What OS?] Vista and windows 7 automatically detect the screen and if not i can write some instructions for you. If its OS X i can help you. and also Windows XP is easy. Write back with the OS and ill see what I, or others, can do!

LOL. This is not nearly enough information for anyone to help you. You need to specify the type of cable (HDMI, coax, component, etc.), what type of laptop (Windows vs. Apple), and probably even what operating system you’re using before anyone can really help. Sorry. But to answer your questtion, yes, I’m sure there’s a computer-eese thing you can do.

You have probably failed to switch your TV to the appropriate input source. It will be PC/ or similar as a laptop is unlikely to have HDMI.

If you are using VGA your laptop might not have the little screw holes on the sides of the plug to hold the cable in place. That is how my sisters laptop is. Even a tiny bump will make the cord come loose enough to lose the connection even though it looks like it is plugged in.

So I would make sure the cable is firmly in place and make sure the TV is using the right input. Seriously, the cat rubbing against the cord is enough for it to lose the connection.
