Asked by Lorna (661points) November 29th, 2013

Why do people leave here, especially long time, well known members?

It was recently. Maybe a week? I believe she quit the day I came back.

Fluther can get old and mundane, especially when you’ve been a member for many years. Some of us get tired of the distraction and want to focus on more important things in our life.

janbb's avatar

I predict she’ll be back; she always is.

jonsblond's avatar

^true. Many of us do!

In fact, I believe she left around the time that you joined Lorna. Are you Mama? (joke)

Lorna's avatar

I understand that. Thank you for letting us know.

Lorna's avatar

Oh no. Hope it wasn’t anything to do with me. No, I’m not but it wouldn’t be a bad thing. She’s asked some great questions and has made a really good impact here.

jonsblond's avatar

Why would it have anything to do with you? Just curious. You are a new user, right?

I can assure you it had nothing to do with you. Her leaving had nothing to do with any one member here.

Lorna's avatar

Just a figure of speech. I join, she leaves, type of thing.

@Lorna I’m sure it had nothing to do with you. She takes a break from time to time. Sometimes we need to step away to address life in general, some times we have to address some time consuming issues and it helps not to have any distractions.

glacial's avatar

Dammit, why do the ones I really like keep leaving?

Speaking of which, I’m glad you’re back, @jonsblond.

Try not to take it personally. Sometimes events in their lives change their priorities at least for a while,

Because they can.

Who left?

EDIT: Nevermind.

Some people get bored, some people need a break, some people have life changes, some people get mad, some people just thrive on drama.

livelaughlove21's avatar

I love when people threaten to leave multiple times and never do. Want to leave? Bye!

Seelix's avatar

I left for a couple of years. I got bored and just felt like I needed a break. I just couldn’t do this every day, y’know?

I don’t know who left, but I think I might have an inkling…

Pachy's avatar

Lots of reasons: more pressing life business, hurt feelings, illness, boredom, and simply the need to take a break.

Sueanne_Tremendous's avatar

I sort of left multiple times. I never deleted my account but just stop showing up. Part of it was some of my fun friends left (anyone remember TitsMcGee and Asmonet?) or quit showing up and it just got boring. Still is rather boring compared to the beginning days but there is still some interesting things here so I pop in now and again.

khajuria's avatar

Tell them not to, maybe they will listen ;)

zenzen's avatar

You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.

I do not know why.

jca's avatar

OK. I’m out of the loop. Can someone tell me here or PM me and tell me who left?

jonsblond's avatar

My mama loves cakes.

Once they realize the grass is not greener on the other side, they return.

ibstubro's avatar

I appreciate people leaving, as long as they return. Why stay if you’re bored and just going to make miserable company. It’s healthy for the members and for Fluther.

One day I’ll disappear, and re-appear months or years later. Again. When I come back everything old is new again!

Pleased you returned, @jonsblond

KNOWITALL's avatar

@ibstubro You should stay bro.

ibstubro's avatar

I’ve no plans to leave, @KNOWITALL. Just saying that history repeats. :)

Why would they not would be a better question. It is not as if people sign on here for a lifetime contract nor are they paid. I get very upset when people just vanish though. I do worry about some of them in particular. Other’s not at all. Perhaps you have been here for ages and ages it is time to leave? Since you become stale and have answered every question ever asked. New members make it interesting with their new insights. Also some (not all) old timers are so arrogant and full of themselves. One wonders why, all they have done is answers tons of questions for a period. It not like they created world peace or anything.

I say that as some are just damn rude.

Other’s I would hate to leave. I can read Jeruba’s questions and answers over and over they are so well crafted for example. Plus, she can put her point across without slapping you in the face with a wet fish.

I wish people wouldn’t make a big to-do about leaving. They make a big announcement, delete their account and then come right back sometimes less than a week later. I’ve gotten ticked off and left, but I didn’t tell anyone. I just slipped out and came back several months later and most were none the wiser.

I think when people kick up a huge fuss over it, they want attention more than they want to leave. Most of the big huff people have friends here over Facebook and whatnot—and they want their friends to beg them to come back. Just my opinion, but it makes sense to me.

Mama_Cakes's avatar

‘Cause they need a break. Fluther can be too much of a distraction sometimes, and they decide to delete their account, then reactivate it when they’re ready to come back.

ibstubro's avatar

But, @Mama_Cakes, why make a big deal of leaving? Who would know, otherwise?

Mama_Cakes's avatar

Personally, I didn’t make a big deal of it. I just left. I’m pretty sure that the OP is talking about me here.

ibstubro's avatar

OK. I’m out of the loop. Can someone tell me here or PM me and tell me who left?

Mama_Cakes's avatar

@ibstubro I am thinking that the OP’s question was about me. I left. Needed a break. Didn’t say anything. Returned just a few days ago.

janbb's avatar

@Mama_Cakes It was. You were mentioned in the OP; then it was modded.
