What do you think of Trump being "awarded" a Purple Heart?

Asked by stanleybmanly (24153points) August 2nd, 2016 from iPhone

I mean the folks handling his campaign must buy Maalox & Advil by the pallet load. After successfully dodging the draft 4 times, wouldn’t you think he might have the sense to make a pretense at good taste, sound judgement and God forbid, humility? Instead of a polite “this is a wonderful honor, but I can’t accept it”, we get “thanks. I’ve always wanted one, and this is a lot easier.” How is it possible for anyone to be so utterly clueless?

He dodged the draft five times. But most of that was student deferment, he only bought a medical excuse once.

He really must hate veterans. As Tammy Duckworth said, “it is never easy” and various Purple Heart veterans said, “no one ever wants a purple heart.”

And, it was a replica anyway.

Hey The Red necks just love him no matter what he does or says.
But @stanleybmanly why has no one here brought up his remarks to the Kahns?
Your country is starting to scare the shit out of me.
People may not like Clinton but she is still a billion times better than King Trump.
And what was his so called Purple heart for??
Leaving his share holders and labours holding the bag when he pulled one of his many Bankruptcies .

Here is the tweet from Tammy Duckworth. For those that don’t know she lost both her legs in Iraq..

He was not “awarded” a purple heart. Goddamnit! Some veteran who likes him gifted Trump the purple heart that the vet had been awarded. There is nothing official about this and it is meaningless. So, just stop echoing the bullshit.

The medal was handed to him by one of his fans, which is why the question has the “A” word in quotes. Perhaps the “presentation” was a trick by the Clinton camp. If so, it certainly was easy to pull off. The incident should have been just one of those unfortunate interactions with a fan of dubious judgement, but Trump’s OWN judgement in daring to touch the poisoned medal speaks volumes. And then there’s the dialog.

Anything to keep his name in the press with free air time. People giving him attention for this kind of crap are only helping him.

Yes. He is a weed that grows when sprinkled with attention.

According to Trump upon accepting the purple heart: “This is good stuff.”
His language skills are that of a teenager.

Trump’s remark was flippant but once again displays his terrible lack of judgement and compassion for others. Presidential material? I think not.

Meaningless, showmanship.

He devalues Purple Hearts for those who were awarded them legitimately.

ucme's avatar

He should pin it to his purple helmet

And he does so with a flippant nonchalance that betrays his appaling lack of decorum. To publicly state that he’s always wanted a purple heart and is so happy to get one the easy way brings me back again to the theory that his actual goal is to insure the election of Hillary Clinton. I mean wtf? The man is the product of a military school!

I told my husband about this. He flipped his lid.

For context, my husband was very close with his grandfather, who passed away a few years back. Grandpa was a WWII vet. He stormed Normandy, marched through Paris and had flowers thrown on him. He had positively gruesome stories of how he would take out enemy tanks, personally. It took him 40 years to start telling those stories.

The man had shrapnel through his body and a foot dead from frostbite, and turned down the Purple Heart three times. Said he hadn’t earned it yet. The joke was that it was a “pussy medal” – that someone would take it just to go home, but the fact was when you’ve stood in a chow line and watched the guy next to you explode and die, your little shrapnel wound kind of loses its sense of importance. That guy earned it.

They weren’t there to get medals – they were there to save the world.

Donald Trump is a national embarrassment.

Jesus fuck. He seems more and more like a parody every day.

I was going to post some comments, but it makes me too angry…

As one commentator suggested, he should have pinned it back on the veteran who gave it to him and thanked him for his service, adding “You’re the true hero.”

I seriously doubt any other presidential candidate or any POTUS, even ones I disliked or disagreed with, would accepted that medal.

It’s difficult to believe that he can really be so obtuse. I mean it’s one thing to be unfit for office, but have you ever seen anyone so relentless in proving it. I mean there is nothing Clinton can say about him that can approach his own ruthless portrayl of a walking joke.

While serving on a hospital ship (1968–1970), I was witness to too many Purple Heart ceremonies. A the uniform of the recipient was usually a hospital gown or pajamas, or (all too often) a body bag.

I’m normally not an angry person; however, Trump’s recent showboating concerning Gold Star families, the Purple Heart, and other insensitivities almost puts me in a rage.

^^ It really shows you how clueless he is about most things, and yet the red necks think this is the guy that will save us all, all I can say if he does get in God help us all.

Lightlyseared's avatar

He’s a fucking idiot.

gondwanalon's avatar

Only a lunatic wants to be injured or killed by a hostile enemy. That’s how you are awarded the Purple Heart. This just is another illustration of Trump’s weak mental ability.

I’m hoping he’s going down soon. He’s just doing and saying too many awful, awful things.
