Is my bladder going to explode?

Asked by awomanscorned (11261points) June 5th, 2011 from iPhone

I pee in the morning when I get up and then not again until 4 or 5. I drink coffee, water, tea… I’m not dehydrated. I just don’t have to go. Even if I try, just don’t have to. Is this eventually going to hurt me?

Why would it explode if you don’t have to go?

Drinking more water more often will increase your urination rate. I’ve often heard that “holding it” can increase your risk of bladder infection, but I’ve seen no actual studies on it. As you get older and your bladder becomes less flexible (expansive), you’ll find yourself going more often.

In my younger days I was able to do that but as I got older the more frequent I had to go through out the day. I wouldn’t panic, you just have a large bladder, just go when you feel you have to go. Don’t hold it in needlesly because that is what will cause the uti type infections.

I’m the same way. I’ve been called “The Camel” on long distance road trips.

No, your bladder won’t explode.

No you will not explode. If your pee is very yellow, I would say increase your water intake a little to help your kidneys and flush you out. I can go for hours also without urinating. My mom always called me a camel.

Now, it might be worth mentioning on this thread that it is important not to drive with a full bladder, because on impact if God forbid you are in a crash, your bladder can rupture if it is very full.

Dude, I’m like this too and everyone thinks I’m a freak. I used to pee just once a day, now I pee a little more than that because I have to drink exorbitant amounts of water. I swear it’s just because I have a massive bladder. Just for shits and giggles, I did a little experiment and weighed myself when I really really had to pee (digital scale that measures to the nearest .1 pound) and then after, and if I remember right I think I dropped almost two pounds. That means almost a liter of space in there, so I was RIGHT motherfuckers, my bladder is huge. You totally need to do this Noelle.

Edit: Oh shit, this is in general. No, your bladder won’t explode! You just have a freak bladder like me.

Like what @creative1 and @syz stated, attribute it to a large bladder. But as you get older you will possibly have to go more frequently. I like to think its mind control, since I hate to go to public restrooms or use a porta-john when I’m out, I don’t think of going and ignore any warnings that I need to go. If for some reason I have to go while out, I will hold it until I get home, which I know is not good.

Pee into a container and measure it. If you can hold 750 ml, 25 ounces, you can claim bragging rights. Enjoy it while you can.
I’m answering this Q at 2:50 AM because I no longer have that capacity.

You can also train your bladder not to pee at certain times. We can go for long periods at night not needing to go, so similarly you can do the same during the day. So if you are drinking normally and not doing massive pees when you do go, it will be because you have trained your bladder not to fill up during the day. You’ll need to be peeing more than average at other times though – is that right?

I’d be a bit worried if you are peeing masses (@Mariah – listen up) because if you overload your bladder and make it stretch to a very large capacity, you can damage things and make yourself incontinent eventually. So you should respond to the signals your bladder sends you and pee at the first opportunity.

Well I’m off to the loo now….
