How does one eat a mango?

Asked by srmorgan (6773points) June 8th, 2008

I had never tried to peel a mango until just recently. It has tough skin and a tough fibrous pit, Should I peel it and gnaw at it, or slice it against the pit?

Eat it nude or over the sink. Make sure it is ripe. Mango management

PS. Nothing really works. The fruit is delicious and the process of getting it from the pit to the mouth is invariably messy.

mmm. Eat them! I love me some mango. Eat it any way you can. A sharp filet knife works to peel and slice.

This is how i learned in culinary school.

that is a great video! Thanks!

Yea, the rest of his videos are pretty good too. I recommend his pomegranate method as well, no mess and it makes it easy to eat.

Do you spit out the pomegranate seeds or swallow them, speaking of mangoes?

I usually use my teeth.
Seriously, after peeling, cut a cross upon the top. Pour on lemon or lime juice and sprinkle with chili powder. Mmmm.

Chili on a mango? The flesh is so delicious as is.

That must be the Mexican influence on me as I live in California. That’s how they usually eat it, and on a stick.

@gail i eat the seeds. Im not sure what the right way is, but they taste just fine and it would be a pain to have to spit all those seeds out.

@uberbatman: Fantastic technique. I actually wish we had some mango in the house right now. I would love to try that.

“Very carefully” was the first answer that popped into my head.

Okay, now that you know how to peel it. THIS is how you eat a mango if you want to have the best and simplest dessert ever. cut the mango in little cubes, and have it with vanilla ice-cream!!!!!!! This is a summer favorite, though I would do that all year long. If you don’t like vanilla, go for something in the same shade (as in, i don’t think chocolate would work as well). Now someone pass me a mango please.

@ICeskate, FYI, sorry but it’s you’re. Apostrophes mean that the words become it is and you are if you are interested in getting it right.

How does one eat a mango? The same as one would eat an elephant; one bit at a time.
