Are US air carriers looking to purchase Tupelov TU-214s?

Asked by srmorgan (6773points) July 7th, 2015

My son says that three US carriers (USAir, American and Southwest) are looking at Tupelov TU-214s in Baton Rouge this month.
It seems incomprehensible to me that American flag carriers would consider purchase of Russian aircraft. The FAA and Department of Defense would never expose this kind of exposure or risk.
Can anyone confirm or refute?

Thanks

I don’t know, but the main problems of Russian aircraft was maintenance. That said most US carriers buy equipment that is similar and has the common parts, i.e. engines, aeronautics, computers.. The Russian planes would be different.
