General Question

Zachary_Mendes123's avatar

I joined a website that is for people with mental issues. Because of that I don't think I'll be here much. Happy now?

Asked by Zachary_Mendes123 (1237points) April 2nd, 2017

The website is called HealthUnblocked.com and it’s not just for people with mental problems It’s also for people with depression and anxiety and more. I know that I was getting a bit annoying so some people might be happy that I won’t be here everyday.

I am happy you have found a place you feel you will be happy, but no, I don’t want you to leave Fluther.

zenvelo's avatar

I hope you visit us often.

flutherother's avatar

You can be in both.

Zachary_Mendes123's avatar

@Patty_Melt Why don’t you want me to leave Fluther?

Patty_Melt's avatar

I enjoy your humor, I care about your pursuit of healing, and you ask very good questions.
The questions you ask are things which bother other people too. Some of those people don’t know how to ask for help. The answers which are there for you can also help others.
We can always use a variety of viewpoints. If someone disagrees with you, that doesn’t lessen the value of your opinion.

Fluther is for people with anxiety and other mental health issues. Years of threads and posts confirm we are all loons

Zachary_Mendes123's avatar

@Patty_Melt Oh. So you’re saying that I could still get help here?

SergeantQueen's avatar

Yes, @Zachary_Mendes123 you can still get a ton of help here. Certain questions, some aren’t qualified to answer. But you can still get a lot out of this site.

elbanditoroso's avatar

Come or go, it’s a personal decision. Whatever you think is right.

It doesn’t really matter where you get advice – that other site, or Fluther, or some place else. The key point is what will you do with the advice?. You, and only you, have to translate advice into action.

kritiper's avatar

You’ve been here before??? I haven’t noticed.

Zachary_Mendes123's avatar

@kritiper what are you talking about?

Patty_Melt's avatar

?????? He’s been here a few days, but not before that.

Sneki95's avatar

Buddy, trust me, no one will be happy that you leave. We don’t hate you.

Good thing that you tried to get help from somewhere else too. I wish you luck there.

But we don’t hate you. You can chill here as much as you like, we’ll try to do our best to help you out.

Some of us are a bit more sharp tongued than others, which may have made you think we don’t like you. That is not true.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I want you to stay. But this is just a social Q&A site. I don’t think any of us have any specialized training in psychology or psychiatry so I’m not sure how much “help” we can be. We don’t hesitated to express our opinion though, in case you haven’t noticed! Whether or not those opinions help you depends on you.

Zachary_Mendes123's avatar

@Dutchess_III so far 2 people want me to stay. I think I’ve made up my mind. I’m staying.

Ayesha's avatar

Don’t leave! I’ve had some fond memories on here. It gets better trust me :)

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

Hi Zach, I don’t think anyone wants you to stop visiting Fluther. We just want you to be well and seek professional help. We’re worried about you. I’m really glad you’ve ALSO found a site where you can talk to people about your mental health issues. That’s a really good step for you. Well done. So hopefully you’ll still be around. As I said the other day, there are good people here who will give you really good advice.

@Zachary_Mendes123: I don’t know you and I don’t think I’ve interacted with you on Fluther but all Jellies are welcome and all Jellies are valuable. Please stay. We’re a small community and sometimes we bicker but in general, we really care about each other. Some of us are friends on other sites like Facebook and some of us have met other Jellies in person (yes, live in the flesh!). Do stay.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Hey if they haven’t tar and feathered me and run me off you are quite safe.
We all bring our own unique views and opinions.
So stay if you please.

si3tech's avatar

@Zachary_Mendes123 For what it is worth I don’t want you to leave fluther. I think here you will find some great people who really do care. God Bless.

kritiper's avatar

It’s hard to notice one out of many unless that one is one that always stands out. Do you want to stand out? I try not to. But I’ll either give you my honest opinion or total BS every time. But you should be able to tell the difference.

Zachary_Mendes123's avatar

@kritiper, Because of you, right now, I think I changed my mind about staying.

Mimishu1995's avatar

This isn’t what you want to hear, but you can stay at anywhere you want, as long as you learn to listen and take advice in a civil way and not getting angry at people who don’t say thing you want to hear. No one likes being shouted at for trying to help.

Zachary_Mendes123's avatar

@Mimishu1995 That wasn’t shouting.

Dude. You don’t need anyone’s permission or approval to be here. Stay. Leave. It’s all you.

cazzie's avatar

You should ask yourself why you care how we feel about whether you stay or leave. We are strangers on the Internet. Maybe it isn’t that healthy to put too much weight on our opinions.

Mimishu1995's avatar

Wait, wait, WAIT!

Now that I’m on my computer and have nothing to do, I have time to check out the website.

What do I get? A suspicious website that asks you to pay money for some sort of therapy. It looks like something a spammer could use to promote.

Do you mean this? It’s “Health unLOCKED”, not “Health unBLOCKED”.

cazzie's avatar

I didn’t see where it asked for money. OH, the Unblocked website is some nutjob ‘personal coach’.. but the Unlocked website actually looks more helpful. I see..

If you are easily upset by anonymous people’s points of view, I would recommend avoiding the Internet all together…

In my opinion, you’re taking something here too personally. Fluther is a Q and A site, but also a debate forum. In debate, people offer counter points, and opinions. Such words,or advice are the same as any other you get/hear in the real world. Sometimes, you get some good points, or advice. Sometimes, you disagree with what you hear. Just stick up for yourself by keeping a level head, and representing your views as best you can, without knee jerk emotional reactions. Jellies here come and go. The ones who can articulate their views without lowering themselves to being ruled by their own emotions seem to get the most from this site.

Fluther, much like life, is what you make of it. I personally enjoy your presence here. As mentioned above, I think we’re all a little screwy (with all due respect, and admiration,to my fellow jellies.)

When someone doesn’t fit in here, they are ignored. The fact that others are engaging you, and attempting to help you, means you’re fitting in just fine.

Anyway. Do what you think is best. But the pond will not be a better place without you…

@Zachary_Mendes123 When I was first diagnosed with Graves Disease (I didn’t diagnose myself, a doctor did.) I found one of those support forums like the https://healthunlocked.com/ site to be really helpful. It was really helpful talking to people who had the same diagnosis as I did and had experience with the medications I was having to take and deal with the symptoms I had. I would encourage you to take a few steps now to help yourself.
1. Talk to a trusted adult, like a school counsellor or teacher or parent.
2. See a proper, registered medical professional. Usually, going to your family doctor and having them refer you to a specialist can be the best, most positive step you can take.
3. Be open and listen to the professionals trying to help you. Sometimes they have to tell you very truthful things that we don’t like or want to hear. Sometimes, what can seem like bad news (like, in my case, finding out I had an incurable disease) ended up being a relief in the end because it finally had the answer to why I was feeling so sick and could work on getting better and improving myself and my life and my health.
4. Reach out to people with a similar diagnosis to compare notes, get support.

We’re not so terrible here. Some of us are just old and jaded. Cynicism is a sharp pointed stick.

MrGrimm888's avatar

^An example of good advice. I hate that I need glasses/contacts, but I’m glad they are available. In life, you play the hand you’re dealt.

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

@Zachary_Mendes123 I am very glad you’ve found a resource on the internet that you like. I have not checked it out. Like any place online, check the facts of absolutely everything suggested to you. Check out everything.

I hope you decide to stay. We need young people on here. If you decide to leave, then go and be happy.

si3tech's avatar

@Zachary_Mendes123 and @cazzie The two of you have two different references to websites.
One is healthunBlocked and one is healthunLocked. You may know this already but I would think they are different.

Mimishu1995's avatar

@si3tech I think the OP was referring to Healthunlocked, but he had a typo and accidentally wrote Healthunblocked.

rojo's avatar

Damn. Moderated again and who TF are you to say it was unhelpful anyway? The goddam OP gave me a GA.
