How would you rate "Smart Dogs" hot dogs?

Asked by Aster (20023points) August 19th, 2017

I saw someone cooking them on a video and she claimed they tasted “just like regular hot dogs.” Two people replied they were “gross.” I’d like to know what’s in them besides vegetables.
Anyone try them?

I have not tried them. But passing plants off as hot dogs is grotesque, Insulting to the plant and embarrassing to hot dogs everywhere, to have an impostor.

According to their web site, this is what is inside: INGREDIENTS
WATER, SOY PROTEIN ISOLATE, SOYBEAN OIL, EVAPORATED CANE SYRUP, PEA PROTEIN ISOLATE, TAPIOCA STARCH, SALT, POTASSIUM CHLORIDE, BAKERS YEAST EXTRACT, CARRAGEENAN, DRIED GARLIC, NATURAL FLAVOR (FROM PLANT SOURCES), NATURAL SMOKE FLAVOR, XANTHAN GUM, FERMENTED RICE FLOUR, GUAR GUM, OLEORESIN PAPRIKA (COLOR).

CONTAINS: SOY

The only meat imitation that I ever found to be acceptable was Quorn.

I prefer the individually wrapped BBQ hot dogs.

Those ingredients sound like a nightmare.

They’re OK. A nice alternative for people like me who don’t eat meat.

About 20 years ago my coworker was making lunch and asked if I wanted some.

His lunch was a bagel sandwich with bologna and a slice of that “American” cheese single shit that comes in plastic. I was like “sure”, and it was actually pretty good.

My sister and my bagel buddy had been friends for a decade. Turns out this was all a plot by my sister to get me to eat something vegetarian. And it worked. I didn’t know it was veggie bologna.

I couldn’t tell the difference in taste.

@elbanditoroso that’s a disappointment. I thought they were made from vegetables .
