If you’re asking if certain opinions will be changed, just because of obvious/proven science and change right in their faces, no….

Limbaugh has already claimed that Irma is a liberal conspiracy. Do you think nobody believes that? You might be shocked to find out….

Heads in the sand would be an upgrade, over where their heads are now…

More to the q. I don’t know. If Harvey costs $150 billion, and Irma does damage, that’s a big deal… Between this shit, and the wildfires, it’s a wonder the US doesn’t have to claim bankruptcy…

Irma came from Cape Verde. Trump should make them pay for the clean up. Just like Mexico should pay for Harvey, and the wall. The wall would have stopped Harvey…

Trump will declare in six months it didn’t happen (deniers first step)

Blame Hillary’s e-mails caused hurricanes (second step)

Obama caused, with DACA, to have the water come out of the sky (third step)

What about all of us in west going up in smoke? Same rope, different ends.

MrGrimm888's avatar

Yeah! That’s it though. If we could steer the hurricanes west, they would put out the giant fires…

The 1940’s were like that. The 90’s were like that. Sandy was a surprise for many, but we had one like that in 1938. That’s what the deniers will say.

The conversation will continue. They will continue until the leaders of the major economies of the earth are damaged directly by a protracted series of frequent catastrophes that are usually considered flukes, like another Dustbowl, or a monster hurricane in NYC or London every few years. They’ll eventually come around to the fact that it is good risk management to bet on the side of anthropogenic climate change and put more money and R&D into passive tech and a greener way of doing things. They are slowly coming around.

It would be nice if they would work a little faster.

The best the rest of us can do is do our homework and live greener.

We’ll see how it goes…

We are at the peak of a 12 year cycle. It won’t be annually, but it will be amplified in peak cycle years.

Isn’t it obvious? Simply extend Trump’s Mexican border wall to include the Gulf Coast.

Yeah, in the olden days before Trump we never had hurricanes. Not one.

Sign me up for being a true believer now.

Give it a rest. Give me a break.

biggest ever & 3 in a month. And of course Trump himself is a wind without precedent.

Coloma's avatar

Blame it on the blowhard. LOL

It’s a conspiracy. All those wind turbines we see spinning are making wind and increasing the intensity of hurricanes. Just ask Trump. “We make the best wind turbines. They are huge. This is a big deal!”

My guess is a few people will start to think about moving inland. Insurance rates will go up along the coasts. A few ibig shots with ready cash will buy up properties for a song and then influence governments to fund remediation projects that will make the properties valuable again.

The insurance factor will probably force more rigorous building standards resulting in more robust and durable structures.

They’ll pay up and continue to live on the coast, and take their chances on the hurricane cycle.
