Is it normal to see your pulse in your wrist?

Asked by tan253 (2948points) March 4th, 2018

Hey Fluther,
I was taking out a splinter from my palm last night when a beating vein caught my eye in my wrist, just under my thumb.
I look at my other wrist and I can see it there as well but not as clearly and it depends on how I manipulate my wrist as to whether I can see it all the time or not. I’m trying to not fall in my anxiety-prone state and just ask first if others can see theirs. I’m fairly slim and the Dr mentioned once he could see my heart beat in my stomach, saying it’s not uncommon for slender types to see their heartbeats. Will ask the nurse just in case, but can anyone else see their heartbeat in their wrist? Thanks!

I’m looking at mine right now! Remember, the skin on your wrist is quite thin, and if your pulse is a little stronger, like if you’re winded or anxious, it can be quite visible.
Not too worry. :-)

Thanks, Guys, I’ve never noticed it before, it is kinda freaking me because if you google it comes up with DVT or high blood pressure or something else I can’t pronounce….

It’s normal under stress. It’s not an aneurysm.

One of your largest arteries. Some people have more vascular bodies too. So, they may appear more “veiny.”

When it stops, then you’ve got a problem….

Yes, normal. And sometimes you cans on in your temples, too!

And, just for your peace of mind, quit looking up possible dire symptoms on the internet.

When I was younger I could easily see mine. I used to get a kick out of making it do tricks. Put a pencil on it across my wrist, and watch it teeter totter. I put plastic bugs on it and it made them appear alive.

My brother was gross. He would clamp his other hand tightly around his wrist. Instantly there would be huge purple ropes wriggling all over his hand. It really creeped me out.
