I retired at 100% SS benefits. My wife is presently 62 and 2 months. Can she begin to collect half of my social security check now?

at 62 and 2 months , can my wife collect 50%of my full social secirity check .i have been retired at 100% for 5 hears and am now 71 years old.

No if you are alive she can only collect her SS. At 62 she can collect about ¾’s of her benefits.

I was able to start collecting ½ of my Ex’s SS but I had to wait until full retirement age of 66. The rules were just changing after I applied, Here are the current rules and it sounds like she can apply but may not be able to switch to her own SS later..

Your best bet is to make an appointment at your local Social Security Office and discuss your options with them. I found them very helpful when I went in.

I began drawing SS a few months back, and my wife began receiving substantially more. I’m going to say yes.
