General Question

At what age does the opposite sex lose its sexual attraction?

Asked by crazyguy (3207points) December 4th, 2020

Since most posters on Fluther are boomers or older, this question may be appropriate here.I just turned 73 and still get turned on (but not necessarily a hard-on) when I see a really attractive woman. Will that ever end? Mind you, I quite enjoy the feeling, even though I would never take the next step.

I’m 52, so I can’t tell you by personal experience. But I can tell you that my grandpa had a girlfriend at 95.

At 60, I haven’t found the end. I can still appreciate the beauty in women and can find them sexually attractive, though the pool of age appropriate women is shrinking. But since I am married (and happily so), I’m not acting on any attractions anyway.

@anniereborn Thanks for your answer. Go grandpa!

@seawulf575 I did not realize that you are still a kid. I am madly in love with my wife, who is mine just because we Indians believed in arranged marriage when I got married! However, I do get sexually turned on by many friends – golf playing partners at our country club, or friends’ wives, or even just women walking by! I hope to goodness my wife never reads Fluther (she has shown zero interest in it so far!)

I might be able to answer that question if all people looked exactly the same.

It does not at any age.

Johnny Carson had a woman on his show who was 98. He asked her on one occasion “When does sex stop feeling good?” She got the cutest little grin on her face and replied “I’ll let you know when it stops. He turned a bright red and started gasping for air

I’m hoping never.

@kritiper Then I think most of us would acquire an affinity for that standard look.

@si3tech That is what I think. I have a 78-year old that I play golf with me. His current ‘lady’ is 95+ and he says she just can’t get enough of him!

@SEKA That is hilarious!

@janbb That makes two of us.

For some jellies, that age is 0. ;-)

@crazyguy He had her on the show from somewhere around her95th birthday until she turned 100. She played along with his silly little games well. To my knowledge, she never returned to tell him it had lost its appeal

I’m 29, so evidently not one of the usual suspects here – But my own experience is that you guys pursue females regardless of age (yours or theirs). In my case I don’t mind, but I think for other women sexual interest in men does tend to decrease with age.

crazyguy's avatar

@JLoon That is very interesting. Do you think the decrease in sexual interest is general (including in her regular partner) or does it just apply to other men?

Nomore_lockout's avatar

I never had any sex appeal anyway.. yawn. So what’s up with Trumpty Dumpty?

JLoon's avatar

@crazyguy – I’m not aware of any surveys or clinical studies that explain what goes on, but I do hear from older friends and family who think menopause is the problem.

As we age women go through physical and mental changes that men don’t experience in the same way. But it’s still different for everyone.

I’m hoping I’ll hit 40 with all my nasty habits still intact ;D

crazyguy's avatar

@JLoon I am sure you will hit 40 with no issues. In fact you will probably hit 60 with few issues. It is after that that sexual activity tends to decline, but, as far as I can tell, sexual attraction does not. Go figure!

After 30 years of marriage sex is absolutely not important anymore. If I never engage in sex again am totally fine with that. There are so many better things to do, anyway.
