How do I retrieve a game that I purchased from the iTunes Store?

Asked by mirza (5057points) August 7th, 2007

A few months ago I bought an iPod game from my old computer. It worked fine but I had to move onto a new computer. Well the game was still in my iPod after I connected to my new laptop. But yesterday I had to restore my iPod which wiped out the entire iPod. Is there a way to retrieve the game that i bought from my iTunes account without buying the game again?

As far as I know, there's no way to retrieve the game yourself, but you can contact iTunes (use the email form) and ask for help.

My understanding is that Apple has an informal policy to let customers download their lost music for free. By which I mean there are anecdotal stories on the internet of customers talking iTunes support into letting them download their music again.

Here's Wil Wheaton explaining that Apple let him download his music again for free after he lost all of it. I'm not sure they'd do it for one game. Still, it's worth a try.

It wouldn't hurt if you were a former child-actor with a widely-read blog.

bob's right. It's an unwritten apple rule.

My cousin e-mailed them the other day and she got to redownload all of her content that she had lost from a hard drive crash...

thanks guys but heres the e-mail i got from apple:

"Dear Mirza,

Thank you for purchasing from the iTunes Store. I apologize for the inconvenience, but I am unable to add "Texas Hold'em" back to your account.

The iTunes Store is not responsible for the loss of purchases and encourages customers to back up their hard disks regularly. If an item needs to be replaced, you can restore your purchases from the backup and avoid the need to purchase replacement copies of titles from your collection.

Additionally, please make back up copies of your new purchases on a regular basis. These articles explain the backup process:"

yo that is so whack. I can’t beleive apple would do that. Try calling them, they’re always so helpful on the phone.

No, there’s not.

This is why you need to back up your ipod before restoring. Everything will be saved in iTunes for you and waiting when you sync it.

Sorry for your loss.
