Who thinks the newest upcoming Star Trek film will be a success?

Asked by TheKNYHT (686points) March 2nd, 2009

Its an all new cast, playing the traditional characters from the original series. Will it be a bust or a raving success? directed by J.J. Abrams and also starring Leonard Nimoy! And Mr. Nimoy has given it his praiseworthy endorsement.

I cannnnnnot wait for the new Star Trek! I really think it’s going to be a huge success! I’m definitely seeing it opening night on IMAX.

I think it will be an interesting look at beginnings of Star Trek as opposed to how far they’ve went forward in the series. ‘Nemesis’ was just awful, in my opinion. I, for one, am certainly looking forward to this newest Star Trek installment.

I do. There is an established fan base there who HAD to have moved out of their parents basements, kissed a girl and raised a whole new fan base who will want to see it.

Plus, it looks like a movie that will stand on its own.

It will assimilate the box office.

Everyone will love this film. Resistance is futile!

I am pretty certain that if it maintains even modest levels of filmmaking achievement, it will live long and prosper.

I think it’ll be decent. I’m hoping it’s enough to start another TV series. Enterprise really had it going nicely, and with today’s CG technology, Star Trek could really be pulled up to greater levels. As always, it’s the writing that makes or breaks it. Same goes for the movie.

It looks amazing.

My husband is really excited about it. The show has been growing on me so I’ll give it a go. I’m just happy to do something with him that he’s excited about.

Affirmative, I concur on the estimable success of this newest, and perhaps greatest edition to the Star Trek franchise. It seems the adventures of Kirk and crew are ready to dazzle a whole new generation.
From what I’ve gathered, the writing is superb, and Zach, the actor from Heroes, that plays Spock, has taken the character where Nimoy (self-admittedly) had never taken it before!
Remember what Roddenberry called the phenomena known as Star Trek, with all of its writing and acting and chemistry between the actors? “Lightening in a bottle”.
Now it remains to be seen if these actors can recapture that lightening and put on a performance that Shatner, Nimoy, Kelly and Co. proto-typed.
Bear in mind, J.J. Abrams told the actors “You’re not imitating Shatner doing Kirk, Nimoy doing Spock, etc. You’re using what they did as a base, but then run with it like its your own, because now? It is!” (That was ad libbing a bit because I can’t remember the exact words). I also heard in the rumor mill that Eric Bana is a true villian, the likes of which we haven’t seen since Khan! Whoa! “I’ve done far worse than kill you; I’ve HURT you, and I wish to go on… hurting you! I shall leave you as you left me! as you left HER! marooned for all eternity in the center of a dead planet… buried alive, buried alive!”

I love these geek threads. I always get a chuckle at the level of seriousness. They use subtitles for Klingon! Oh no, if they can’t learn Klingon then they don’t deserve to know what’s going on!

GEEK FREEK ALERT!! GEEK FREEK ALERT!
GENERAL QUARTERS! ALL PERSONNEL TO GENERAL QUARTERS!
After reading articles in Newsweek and Entertainment Weekly, it seems EVERY ONE, and I mean EVERY ONE that’s been interviewed is VERY optimistic that they will not only pull this off, but even POSSIBLY RIVAL the original actors portrayals?
Is this hype? Or just merely hyper space? oops, sorry . . . wrong sci fi movie.
I REALLY love how they redesigned the Enterprise: it looks enough like the TOS ship to be recognizable, plus some elements from the Enterprise from ST:TMP, and then some lines that are completely original with this film.
Bridge design is also similarly fashioned; I saw only one view of the sick bay, but it, along with the bridge seem a lot more spacious.

I wonder who’s doing the composition for the sound track? or should that be: sound trek? : P

Incidently @astrochuck, I AM of the body: and you WILL be ABZORB’D!

I thought the movie was amazing! I can’t wait to go see it again.

TheKNYHT's avatar

Saw the movie finally.

From a scale of 1 – 10, I give it an 8.5 at the least.

Remarkable solution to the continuity problem any writer faces with a new incarnation of Trek!

LOVED every ones performance, specially Zach Quinto, Karl Urban and Eric Bana!

Mr. Nimoy is looking (and sounding) ancient, but he still delivers the goods as the elder version of Spock.

I will see it again, and be among the first to get the dvd (out around Sept/Oct) and eagerly await the next installment.
