It is a myth that the table fork was introduced to the West during the Middle Ages, as the Greeks used forks for serving. The fork, as an apparent serving utensil, is also mentioned in the Hebrew Bible. It was first introduced to Western Europe in the 10th century.—more info on wikipedia

Adding to Mirza’s already excellent answer, the fork has been around as long as recorded history as a cutting aid – holding meat in place while using a knife to cut. The transition to a standard eating utensil (in the West) started in Italy in the 10th century.

I think it was called the split spoon at one point. I’d like to bring that back.

Careful kids.. The “Split Spoon” is also a sexual position. Think twice before asking your mom for one next Thanksgiving.

Sounds like “sporking” might be even naughtier than it sounds.
