How good is Doom 3?

Asked by IchtheosaurusRex (8676points) January 27th, 2010

Back in the 1990s, I wore out several mice playing Doom and Doom 2. I never looked at Doom 3 when it came out, but I heard it was scary good. Opinions? Also, how would it run on a system that isn’t really set up for gaming, like a typical office PC.

I thought it was..okay
Not really as scary as FEAR or Dead Space, but it wasn’t too bad.
The main reason why I got a 360, don’t hurt me!

I didn’t like it. It would have been better had someone paid the electric bill and turned the lights on.

I think it’s fine. It’s better if you play it at night in a dark room, so it’s more immersive.
However, even though I’m in love with Doom to the point of obsession, Doom 3 kind of annoys me. I guess it’s just because I’m so loyal to the first set of Doom games. You should just know that it’s nothing like classic Doom, so you should not expect that. If you don’t like today’s typical first-person-shooter, you will probably not like Doom 3. Also, if you have a problem with it being too dark to see shit even with a flashlight, then you will probably not like it either.

That said, I think it should run fine on an office PC.

side note:It’s funny to hit zombies with your fists or the flaslight

Never played it, but my buddy told me “if you could have duct-taped your flashlight to your gun it would have been fun.”

@Talimze , I haven’t played a FPS game since, I think, Quake 2. Somebody gave me a copy of MDK, and I didn’t like it at all, manipulating the character rather than seeing through his eyes. Don’t like fumbling around in the dark, either, even in Doom classic.

I guess I’d love to play something like Doom classic with high-res graphics. zDoom adds a little life to the old games, but everything is still pixellated and you have to ignore the artifacts.
