Would't it be great if it will be possible to see who voted "Great Answer" or "Great Question"?

Asked by Ranimi23 (1917points) August 8th, 2010

This is another idea I have for Fluther, the option to know the list of users who like the answer or question. Probably right now Fluther do not save the user names, so this is something need to be Programmed.

This will also help to avoid double votes, so if you vote once, you will not be able to do that again at all.

Just one idea, I like this web site and hope my questions/ideas help to make it even better.

You can’t vote more than once on a question or answer. I also like the anonymity.

@TheOnlyNeffie agreed. Also, @Ranimi23, you can only give a member a max. of 100pts. But, a good question.

Regarding ”Probably right now Fluther do not save the user names, so this is something need to be Programmed.” ”This will also help to avoid double votes”:
Fluther does indeed keep track of who has given GAs/GQs. Double voting is not an issue.

As a user, I’m a bit torn. It clutters up the design, it really does. I like a more simplistic, clean design.
On the other hand, it would be kind of nice to see who appreciates my input. I know there are some users whose input I really like, but I’ve never mentioned it to them, and never really interacted with them.

@BoBo1946you can only give a member a max. of 100pts” That’s true. But lurve doesn’t really have any meaning or worth anyway, the symbolism behind being given a GA/GQ is bigger. At least, in my opinion.

I’m with @TheOnlyNeffie I like the anonymity.

@Sarcasm , if Fluther keep track of who has voted, why after I vote for “Great Question”, after refresh I can vote again. Maybe it is a bug, because after voting it change to disable, but after refresh it is again enable you can still vote again for GQ, even if it does not count.

Sarcasm's avatar

@Ranimi23 Occasionally there will be a bit of lag, and you may be able to click it again, but it certainly does not register as extra GQs.

@Sarcasm ahhh shucks…you really know how to ruin a man’s day…all this time, thought i could sell those “suckers!” Loll

Well, there is a site that I’m on, that you can remain anonymous or devulge your name for answers. It changed it’s format and not a good site now.

Fluther has the most diverse site that I’ve found, Meaning, there are so many interesting things here. The lurves, community feed, very accessible, consistent moderation, siblings, awards, chatroom, etc.

Answerbag changed their site, what a disaster. Occasionally, I drop in to say hello to a few friends, it is a ghost town.

Since Fluther added the social section, hands down, is the best site I’ve found. if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

I’m with @worriedguy I like the anonymity.

Good answers are about a good deed. Nothing more.
Besides my dog, it is the only other way to have or give unconditional love.

augustlan's avatar

No way. The anonymity is important. As @Sarcasm said, we do keep track and you can only GA or GQ once, so that’s not a problem.

marinelife's avatar

I also like the anonymity.

Also, there is a limit to how much lurve you can give one person. After that, you can still click on GA, but the points don’t count.

zenele's avatar

Although I absolutely live for lurve, I have to say this is a bad idea. If you know who has given you a GA, then you also can deduce who hasn’t given you one. For those who care about this stuff, I can just imagine the behind the scenes fighting and finagling a la ”why haven’t you given me a GA?

downtide's avatar

I prefer anonymity too. Much less drama that way, for exactly the reason @zenele describes. However what I would like to know is who I’ve given GAs to and how many, so I know who is near or has reached the maximum.

wundayatta's avatar

The social pressures would be incalculable if we knew who was giving whom how much lurve. You might see someone giving someone else a lot of lurve and wonder about the relationship with them. You might see someone never giving someone else lurve and wonder. Maybe someone hardly ever gives lurve to anyone. There would be pressure for them to give more. Possibly the opposite if someone gives out lurve like fairy dust.

Just as anonymity is important for us a participants on this site, so it is for our approval (or not) of others on the site. If you want to state your approval or disapproval publicly, you have at least a couple of ways of doing it—either through comments on the question or public comments to the individual.

This is the kind of thing, that seems really simple. A no brainer. But that’s what happens if you don’t think about it. You can destroy a site with things like this. The drama increases exponentially and the next thing you know the only people here are teenies and trolls.

gailcalled's avatar

Too much clutter and for me, no interest.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

I like the anonymity. The drama would just be too much, and then most GA/GQ’s would be given for political reasons, not because they were truly great. Plus, it would clutter the design.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@augustlan Can mods see who gave GA/GQ’s, or does the site simply keep track so that you can’t vote more than once?

ucme's avatar

It’s fairly easy to work out who’s giving you GA’s, on a regular basis anyhow. Even easier to ascertain those who, regardless of what your answers are, you aint never gonna get kudos from. Which is fine, it’s only lurve or the lack thereof after all.

Cruiser's avatar

At times I give out lurve rather randomly just because and if people saw that if and when I did they would be rather confused! Best to keep jellies guessing…more fun that way!

Buttonstc's avatar

@ucme

I’m not sure what you mean. I suppose over time you might get a guesstimate but there really isn’t any way to know.

One could easily develop totally erroneous ideas that way, right?

I’m not really preoccupied with either the positive or negative aspect. I just figure “que sera, sera”. To quote Peggy Lee :)

MaryW's avatar

No
I like to receive and give anonymous public lurve. Also I do not believe you can double vote on the same question or answer now and that is good.
I like it that my “vote” is not influenced by my seeing who else voted and how. Everyone’s votes would be influenced by that even if you think not.
If you want to vote lurve and be seen check out the blog post section in light green on the info bar on the right.

ucme's avatar

@Buttonstc “Totally erroneous ideas” Nah not me. I mean, as I said the whole thing is completely unimportant & trivial as to not warrant attention. Just answered the question as I see fit that’s all.

lapilofu's avatar

I forget where, but I read somewhere that a person is less likely to take a compliment seriously if they know where it came from. It’s too easy to rationalize with a “Oh, they just gave me a GA because they’re… whatever.” So I think this way is happier.

Bluefreedom's avatar

No, it really wouldn’t. The way things are now are the best way.

camertron's avatar

@papayalily yes, mods can see who voted GA or GQ. I think it’s mostly for debugging purposes and probably for double voting reasons too.

Jeruba's avatar

No, no, no, no, no.

Mom2BDec2010's avatar

It would be nice so you could thank them but I understand why some people like it better the way it is now-anonymous.

Buttonstc's avatar

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it :)

lapilofu's avatar

@Mom2BDec2010 You actually can thank them! If you asked a question, a link to thank each person appears next to each answer. Even if you didn’t ask a question, you can go to their profile and leave them a comment. It’s much more personal than a GA. I appreciate that a lot more anyway—lurve aside.
