Are slow-moving popsicle trucks violating the law?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) March 1st, 2011

Just about every town and city has “the popsicle man”. He/she travels at about 5 miles an hour and can back up traffic for blocks. When you hear that repeated song over and over and over again, you know what’s coming. Your children beg for money for the ice cream man. Question: since popsicle trucks only travel at about 5 mph, when selling popsicles, do you believe the backlog of traffic these trucks cause is a violation of law by impeding traffic? Or, should we just continue to grin and bear it, as in the past?

No, they have the “slow moving vehicle”, “makes constant stops”, “watch for children” signs/lights…..Seems as legal as…...say garbage trucks are….

I say we put an end to the ice cream truck era. That is truly in my top 5 biggest pet peeves of all time. No joke. Obnoxious and overpriced garbage.
But, I’m fairly sure it is legal. Unfortunately.

Really, @JmacOroni? Prices must have gone up a lot. If I could find a 35 cents, I was out the door in a flash!

With all of the signs, I don’t see that they are impeding traffic any more than the mail truck. Yes, I do realize one is a service of the federal government. I am simply speaking of the similar impact on traffic, not comparing the necessity of each.

Well….I wouldn’t want my siblings running after an Ice Cream truck they can’t keep up with…Let alone RUN after it. They’re not supposed to drive 5mph on streets that are often very busy..only in small neighborhoods..

lol….kids chasing the ice cream truck on the highway is likely illegal

If we get rid of the ice cream trucks, then we have to get rid of the other slow-moving vehicles – like meter maids! (I vote getting rid of meter maids over those who supply me with ice cream goodness on a hot day).
