Proper answer to give prospective employer regarding termination from previous employment?

Asked by ES1963 (2points) September 16th, 2009

Terminated after 1 year and 8 months from job recently. Now I am trying to find new employment, but not sure what to put on applications as to reason for leaving or to give ok to contact previous employer ? Also, if ever given the chance for an interview, what is proper to say why left previous employment (after just a short time there) or why terminated ? They terminated me with false accusations of “insubordiation” and other false and embellished lies.

First they can’t tell the next employer. They are only suppose to say you did work for them. Othersiwe it can be seen as slander.

Second, it is about selling yourself. Let them see that quality that they want to see, amd the dedicated employee you are..

Third, you have been with your previous employer for over a year, almost two. So it did not work out. It is not like you worked for them for 3 months. Tell them that you were a hard worker but they were not able to keep you busy enough. So they let you go and others in the company due to slow business.

In an interview, just say something like, in this economy, lots of businesses are making cuts and imediatley redirect the conversation to why you would be an asset to their business.

Don’t be sour about it in the interview. If asked, spend as little time as possible on the topic and play up your strengths.
