Any suggestions on how to hook up a Blu-ray to a home theatre system?

Asked by Moxy (182points) December 7th, 2009

I have a LG cd/dvd receiver with no HDMI and I am getting a panasonic LCD tv and Panasonic blu-ray player next year. I have the ps2 console hooked to the surround sound receiver and the tv I have now which is a standard tv. How do you hook up the ps2 to the LCD tv to get full HD picture and sound aswell as hooking it all up to my LG cd/dvd receiver and my blu-ray player? Do I need to buy a panasonic receiver with HDMI because I just bought this expensive receiver and I dont want to spend anymore money on another receiver. Do I need another cable?

Try a YCbCr component cable and an optical sound output to an amplifier. Most systems have component ports, and it gives great picture quality, although not quite HDMI level.

Does ‘surround sound receiver’ not equal ‘LG cd/dvd receiver’?

A PS 2 will not give you full HD. Just plug it in to a RCA video/L/R input on your receiver.

A ps2 won’t even give HD never mind full HD (kudos to the marketing guys who thought that HD and full HD was easier than using 720p and 1080p).
