Do you think a statue of an apostle buried in a yard would help a house to sell?

Asked by Aster (20023points) July 16th, 2010

A few years ago people were buying up these little plastic statues , burying them in their yard if their house wouldn’t sell and they claimed the statues worked. Do you believe it and have you known anyone to do it?

It doesn’t work! 6 months and still waiting for an offer.

I read how it was concocted by a Realtor who was attempting to build his business and it did do that as he was soon buying them by the caseload. Google St. Joseph and read up for yourself.

@cruiser For us, 6 months and very little interest. I now remember : St Joseph . Maybe 6 mos is considered not long these days?

Hi, Aster….It’s actually St Joseph, the carpenter. People have been doing it for ages.

I don’t think its necessarily the statue…but it is a symbol for ones belief. In the end, it is the mind and staying positive that does it. If one is thinking that one will never sell the house and burying that “darn old thing” because Aunt Mabel swears it will work….it probably won’t work.

I think positive thinking, prayer and good feng shui and home staging helps, too….and just energetically…letting the house go.

I know…not to belittle the tremendous amount of effort it is taking these days for houses to sell. I suppose I would try everything. I’m like that. You never know what might work.

@Cruiser…Where do you live? That’s a lot of showings.

@Aster…Is it in the country? Have you tried a listing in country specific sites?

FYI, it should be buried upside-down.

@DarlingRhadamanthus It is very unique: all by itself with no homes in sight – but in a gated comm. Only home there surrounded by trees, hills and, if you peek, a golfcourse almost visible in summer but not quite. It is also on the very top of a steep hill. now I’m getting sad Mountain view, too. snif

Mine is upside down and I will say the day after I buried it, I did get a good string of showings and been fairly strong since…just no offers! :(

@Cruiser Lower the price 10K and I bet it sells. Ours is “price negotiable” and still , nothing.
You never told me if you’ve been to chicago’s HOT DOUG’S hotdog place that was on No Reservations.

@Aster I have lowered it quite a bit and it is priced where the other homes are selling at…we are missing a master bath the new homes in the area have and that is the Achilles heel of the home! I have a beautiful dual shower 3rd bathroom in the basement but I guess not what people are looking for in my area.
