What are your usual food cravings?

Asked by Jude (32198points) October 17th, 2009

Which foods do you normally crave? For me, hands down, chocolate. Dark or milk. Also, dill pickles (homemade ones, though, thanks), Mexican food, too..

NOM.. (eating a mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup)

I like green apples with peanut butter.

For sweets it’s almost always cake.

For regular food, it depends. I’m on Atkins, so right now I’m craving meat, especially beef (as opposed to salads and carbless veggies), and pasta (which I can’t eat at all).

Otherwise, my cravings are usually sparked by something throughout the day, so I can’t really narrow them down.

I always am craving chocolate, ever since I got married actually, huh.
Hummus and pita chips are really good
and pop, I love pop

Facade's avatar

Little Debby snack cakes (honey buns, swiss rolls, oatmeal pies)
Chocolate shake from Chick-fil-a
Coke
Japanese food
Red velvet cake
5 Gum
French fries (salt craving)
Chocolate cake
I’m sure there’s more

MagsRags's avatar

Definitely chocolate. Other than that, my cravings tend to be in the salty crispy category of junk food. Freshly popped popcorn with a little real butter drizzled over it. Kettle cooked potato chips. McDonald’s french fries if you get them straight out of the deep fryer…

scamp's avatar

Fruit, chicken,( my SO says I will one day spout feathers!) Chocolate and nuts are the things I crave the most when I “want something.” I like veggie chips too when I crave something crunchy.

I crave chips and salsa. Just Tostitos salsa in a jar (or one of those salsas with a lot of corn and beans in them). I’ve been known to eat ¾ of a jar of salsa in one day. It’s irresistable.

I also crave Original goldfish, watermelon, and Chipotle Mexican Grill. (I’m pretty much always in the mood for Mexican food from anywhere, really. It’s my favorite type of food).

Also: 40-spice hummus with pita or flatbread.

patg7590's avatar

@DominicX I used to but all of a sudden, whenever I eat salsa it tastes really bad.
Like its all acidic on my tongue, like its rancid or something.
I took the salsa back but the replacement did the same thing!
I miss chips and salsa

Coffee and capers are my main vices as far as foodstuff goes. Gotta have the stuff.

Bacon. Always.

I don’t get cravings the way I used to – but then again, I used to be an emotional compulsive overeater.

Nowadays, when I get a craving, I believe it is my body’s way of letting me know that I am lacking something – we have strayed too far from trusting our instincts and listening to our bodies. The most common craving I get is steak, so I assume that my iron is a bit low and I’ll eat some steak and spinach. When I got a wicked head cold last winter, I was craving pink grapefruit juice, which was unusual, but I gave my body what it wanted, and I think that it gave my body the fluids (which I typically don’t get enough of) and the nutrients it needed to fight the illness.

Sushi, ice cream, Nutella, white buns with hot sauce, caviar, roasted seeds

Soylent green.

proXXi's avatar

Semen.. LOL, seriously:

Fresh cut fries

@eponymoushipster just answered ‘Soylent Green’, damn! now my joke wont be funny by comparison, sigh..

Raw meat (beef or fish): Beef filet thawed and cut into strips, flavor boosted by dipping in mild olive oil.

Toro (extra fatty tuna belly meat) raw, sauteed in my saliva (enzymes causing instant fat breakdown) on my tongue.

Rare fresh fatty burger, plain, the buttery feel and taste of the meat complimenting the crisp grilled bun….. Houston’s makes their burgers from the fresh trimmings of their filet and prime rib, mmmm

It would seem I have a taste for protein…

@Simone_De_Beauvoir: Mmmmmm… Nutella… :-P~~ I have some in my cupboard right now!

It’s usually different but this week it’s cheesecake!

jonsblond's avatar

It’s usually dairy. Ice cream, cereal with milk, yogurt, cream cheese on a bagel, bacon/cheddar cheese spread with crackers or string cheese. I just ate cheese pizza

@Justnice You reminded of cheesecake. yum!

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@hearkat oh no I never get it anymore..I’m not allowed to eat it…because I can eat the whole container within an hour..with nothing added

PretentiousArtist's avatar

Radiohead and cigarettes

hearkat's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir: I usually eat it by the spoonful, too! My mother is Swiss, so I grew up on the stuff. I was at a street fair recently and one of the vendors spread it over fresh Belgian Waffles… Oh. My. God.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@hearkat fuck the spoon, I use my fingers…I’m telling you I can not have that stuff in my house…and you can bet your cute ass I ate loads of it in France and in Belgium on all crepes..and I asked for extra

eponymoushipster's avatar

@jmah self-taught and yes.

BBQ ribs and pulled pork with coleslaw and potato salad. My other craving compels me to go to my grandma’s. There is always cornbread and usually some kind of beans, turnip greens, and other soulfood on the stove or I warm up leftovers. And grandma always, always, always, has a big tin full of homemade chocolate chip cookies. I think Im going to ride my bike over their now and get up on some of them cookies.

proXXi's avatar

soulfood… (sigh).

Burgers, ribs, donuts, cheesecake.

poofandmook's avatar

@Brenna_o: omg I love cheesy double beef burritos!!

Today I was craving something I thought sounded good, so I made it, and it was on my diet. I took a low carb tortilla, toasted it in the oven, smeared some creamy Italian dressing on it, some shredded seasoned chicken I made in the crockpot earlier in the week, covered that with a layer of pepperoni and liberally sprinkled shredded Italian mix cheese and popped it back in the oven. I’ve had that on my brain for days, and it was everything I dreamed it would be and more lol

sakura's avatar

When its coming to that time of month I crave fried egg butties on white bread and just after I really want chocolate milkshake! Which is wierd coz thats what I craved when I was pregnant!!

jamielynn2328's avatar

I crave greasy pizza. And egg sandwiches. And Chinese cashew chicken. Sometimes I just crave salty foods too.

MacBean's avatar

… All of the sudden I really want a Kit-Kat, a Coke, and steamed wontons.

ccrow's avatar

@DominicX – 40 spice hummus is the best!!
I usually crave either chips or chocolate, sometimes sugarbabies!! Lately it’s Butterfingers. Or salt & vinegar chips, which are only good if they are strong enough to take the skin off the inside of my cheeks.

CMaz's avatar

Anything from Katz’s Delicatessen.

hearkat's avatar

@ChazMaz: I haven’t been to Katz’ in ages!! Now I’m craving a pastrami on rye!

CMaz's avatar

You got that right my friend!

rooeytoo's avatar

I wonder what the 40 spices are? But I love hummus too, I often make my own.

I used to crave a lot of sugar but I am getting better now. I almost always want some sort of chicken, I love portugese chicken or black bean or stir fry or with rice or stew. Tonight though we are having beef, hehehehe, just for a change. We eat a lot of fish too but I must admit, no matter how hard I try to like it baked, steamed, poached, grilled, I truly like it best when it is battered, fried and served with a mix of soy, lime and sweet chili sauce.

aprilsimnel's avatar

Pasta. Pasta. And cheese.

TitsMcGhee's avatar

Typically, 2% milk, jelly beans, chocolate, pita and hummus, peaches, pasta, pizza, crab rangoon, chocolate pocky, cherry Dr. Pepper, and a few specific items from restaurants (Taco Bell’s steak quesadilla and strawberry Frutista Freeze, Steak n’ Shake’s Frisco Melt, Toastie’s Alice sandwich, lamb over rice from a street vendor near me, and chicken fingers, chili and a vanilla milkshake from Cozy Soup and Burgers).

Also, sex should qualify as a food. I crave sex, and I definitely feel fulfilled when it’s over, much like I feel after getting that food which I craved :D

jonsblond's avatar

damn you @TitsMcGhee! Crab rangoon sounds so good right now and I’m broke! ;)

TitsMcGhee's avatar

@jonsblond: Welcome to my life :( There is a Chinese place with amazing crab rangoon across the street from me, but I need dollars for that, and I don’t always have them, unfortunately. I also recently ordered them for delivery from a different place, and what I got was fried bits of imitation crab with little claws sticking out and NO CREAM CHEESE. I was quite upset.

jonsblond's avatar

@TitsMcGhee It’s hard to find a decent crab rangoon. My favorite take-out shut down years ago but I finally found a restaurant that has something similar just a year ago. It’s still not the same as Kim’s though. sigh

saraaaaaa's avatar

I find it really interesting that research is showing that part of our evolutionary development cravings have started to be based on what our body needs, whether we are aware of it or not. although I’m still not sure where McDonalds fits into that

poofandmook's avatar

@saraaaaaa: That’s easy. People get addicted to McDonald’s. Have you ever seen the documentary Super Size Me? After a while of being on the “diet” he felt sad and depressed until he started eating McDonald’s and then he felt great. And speaking as someone who worked there for a while in my teens, you definitely do become addicted. Therefore, your body has decided it needs it, and then you crave it.

bunnygrl's avatar

After a bad day, chocolate. For anyone in the UK if you haven’t tried it already, try a bar of Asda’s own brand (smart price) milk chocolate. It’s heaven in a wrapper I kid you not! Sometimes though, it’s cream apple turnovers yum!! or maybe toast with tuna and mayonaise :-)

saraaaaaa's avatar

@bunnygrl Asda’s own range is one of my main food sources lol. Although Tesco’s noodles for 9p and they have shortbread biscuits for 9p also :)

hungryhungryhortence's avatar

Lamb
Bread
Cheese
Seafood

bunnygrl's avatar

@saraaaaaa we don’t have a tesco near us, wish we did, my mum in law loves them. Lots of folk turn their nose up at the asda smart price range but they really are pretty good. I also love the tinned rice pudding (18p and really yummy) hugs xx

saraaaaaa's avatar

Tinned Rice pudding!!! Oh dear god i love that stuff…I feel that we should be friends ^^

eponymoushipster's avatar

that tinned rice pudding is nasty.

saraaaaaa's avatar

@eponymoushipster How dare you question such a thing!

eponymoushipster's avatar

@saraaaaaa there are things i am quite fond of that you all have – flake, hp, etc. but that stuff is not so good.

MRSHINYSHOES's avatar

I love salty stuff, and I usually crave things like Pringles potato chips, salt and vinegar potato chips, french fries, beef jerky, salted preserved cuttlefish, and bacon. I know they’re not good for me. I don’t have a sweet tooth like some people do, and I hate milk chocolate and most candies.

I also crave hot and spicy stuff, like curries, laksa, chilli peppers, and black pepper.
