How do I stop my kitten from peeing on my bed?

Asked by ascroggy (7points) August 22nd, 2011

I just adopted two two month old kittens about a week ago. One of them is very small and spends most of her time sleeping on her own cat bed. Last night she peed in my bed for the first time…I was able to get in the wash before it soaked through to the mattress. I put her on her bed for the rest of the night. Then this morning she came over and did the same thing again…I don’t know what to do. I am living in South Korea in a small studio apartment and there are no doors so I can’t keep her out of my bedroom…the whole apartment is my bedroom! I don’t want to get rid of her but I don’t want her to pee on my bed anymore.

Do you have a litter box?
A kitten that young is like a baby and does not have the control to hold it.

Make a litter box out of a small shoebox and take the kitten to it often, or confine it in the bathroom for awhile between playing with it.

He/she should be using the box well within just a few days.

One thing you could (should) do is put the kitty on its litter box several times a day, that way she’ll leaqrn that that is her toilet, rather than your bed.

I’m not really sure how to stop the cat but I will suggest buying a plastic mattress sleeve until you get it sorted out.

Don’t let the kitten on your bed

Keep it off your bed, not too hard to figure out.

@Pustic2 I think @ascroggy figured that out all alone too.
The question is how make the kitty stop peeing on the bed.

What I did until my kittens were fully litter trained is get a dog crate and put a small litter box in it where the kitten/s would spend their time when either I was not home or when I was sleeping. It kept things from having the pee smell on them because one a cat has peed on something the will not stop peeing on that item no matter how much you wash it. They can still smell the scent on the item even though its been washed.

Good Luck with your little kitten buddy!

You need to wash it with a cat pee enzyme thingy that will get rid of the smell so she no longer sees it (or rather, smells it) as just like her litter box. In the US, we have Nature’s Miracle and a few others, but I don’t know what’s available in South Korea.

When my kitten first moved in, she did the same thing. She was big enough to get on the bed on her own, but small enough that she didn’t understand the litter tray. It was a pain, because all I could really do was put a plastic cover over my mattress, discipline her when she peed on the bed, and put her in the litter tray. It took a bit longer than I’d hoped, but she did start using the tray, and I’ve had her for three years without any further problems. Just be firm and consistant. Always redirect her to the designated kitty toilet.

Yes, I agree with @coloma and @rebble. I have owned many cats, and when they were kittens, They would usually respond to litter training in a undesirable way. I say place your kitten as often as needed into the litter box and kitty should catch on.
