I shoveled snow today and now my wrist and hand are hurting. I am wearing a wrist brace. what more can I do?

It is Winter I have to shovel snow. I can not push the Snow Blower. Does anyone have a solution ?
I am serious. My Husband uses the Blower and I shovel. We had a foot of snow last night. I have carpal tunnel but it acts up infrequently.

@philosopher I would assume the best thing you can do is keep your wrist in a brace.
Perhaps ice it for 15, put a heating pad on it for 15 and continue to switch on and off. I use to do that for my knee after a basketball game. I too had a brace.
Fish oil pills work really well for inflammation. Omega 3’s can really work wonders. I take between 3–6 a day. Helps with your joints and muscles.
Perhaps take a couple of days off from shoveling to let it heal depending on how bad it hurts in the morning.

You didn’t indicate what kind of shovel you have, but I found my wrists (and back) hurt less when I use a shovel with a bend in the handle. I also try to attack the snow so that I am pushing small amounts and lifting very little.

Take some type of anti inflammatory pain medication like Motrin or Aleve.

Wrist brace or Ace bandage sound good. Ibuprofen 600 mg every 6 hours for a couple of days. Make sure you take it with a glass of water and some food (can be just a couple of crackers). Also, you have to stop straining it for it to heal, so avoid lifting anything over 10 pounds if possible. Can you pay someone in the neighborhood to clear your snow?

I would also say ice it & take ibuprofen. Also quit shoveling snow if possible!

the first time we exert pressure on ourselves like that kind of hard physical activity it is going to hurt. The first snow, or the first day out in the woods cutting firewood. It seems to get easier each time but still is hard. Trying to pace yourself because we all are different and only we know what we are capable of. Try some range of movement exorcises and some stretching before getting after it and go slow. If you already have arthritis its just going to be a bugger. I agree with what has been suggested for temporary pain relief. What works well for some may not do well for others. Just plain aspirin works fine for me.hth
