What's a good color scheme for my bedroom?

Asked by Cwit (54points) March 23rd, 2010 from iPhone

I got new dark brown almost black furniture for my bedroom. I want to repaint my room color and get new drapes for the window. I’m not good with colors and what would look nice with what. But I wanted to have purple and/or red to be part of it. I was thinking light orange/tan walls and maybe red sheets with a white comoforter and red satin drapes. I’m 20 years old so I’m trying to avoid the little girl look I had.
Thank you!

Hi, I would have answered earlier but I never get the nice questions like this one!! I have dark furniture and have just painted my living room a Mexican orange which is a bit like a red, brown colour. I painted a feature wall that colour as I just felt it would be too much otherwise. I used a sort of very light tan on the surrounding walls. It’s called Hessian by dulux. If you like the red brown orange idea, perhaps get the colour swatches from the paint shop and in the same grouping choose the sheets and curtains (you know colours that are in that family) which would be various shades of red/orange going lighter or darker. Red sheets sound nice, with a dark beige duvet n top.
