Do you have a special number to call for problems in your city or town?

Asked by philosopher (9065points) April 26th, 2010

I have called 311 in NYC for two different reasons this month. They have ignored my request for help on both matters.
What would you do if you had this problem?

I guess it depends on the type of help. I’ve used 311 for informational purposes here in Austin and it worked pretty well. A couple of times I wasn’t sure if something was considered an emergency or not and when the operator decided it was they routed me to 911.

We have 911 and then a non-emergency police number.

We have a van with an expired registration sticker parked in front of our home for over a year.
They have done nothing. We called several times.
I have trees at the curb that the cities says we can not remove or trim. They are suppose do it. I called twice in this regard. I received two emails with confirmation numbers but they have done nothing.
One phone clerk said, a private person could get permission to trim the trees.
The private people said, they are not allowed.
I feel like this is the trend do to budget cuts. What should I do?

Oh, that kind of thing I’m not sure. The car, though, should be a police matter.

“Abandoned” vehicle is a police matter. Some cities will tow if left on curb for longer than a month. You might check with the tax office to see if taxes are current too.

There are no problems in my town which is a mountain tourist, state park, river rafting community. Nothing happens here except forest fires and kids jumping off the bridges and drownings. Once in awhile someone crashes into a mailbox or a horse gets loose.
Sometimes a mountain lion slaughters a few goats or other livestock.

The only number anyone calls around here is the local burn day information line. lol

You’re in Gotham ,right?I’d use the Bat Signal….just call the city and they will direct you,and then do nothing

if they couldn’t help you, did you ask to get directed to someone who could help you? like who you can call to report the abandoned vehicle, or what number you can call to ask about getting the plants trimmed?

@alive
They say they will help but do not.
