Will St. Peter forgive you for being stupid?

Asked by josie (30934points) September 20th, 2013

According to common belief, we will ascend to the pearly gates and confront St. Peter, the keeper of the “Keys to the Kingdom” where we will be vetted before we are granted access to heaven.

Most people imagine, I think, that as long as they were not excessively bad in the eyes of God, they will be let in.

But what if they are wrong. What if the ultimate reverse criterion is stupidity?

Would that motivate you to go back to school? Or at least try to make better choices? Are you sure that that good intentions will get you a pass?

~ I stole the book of life so no one is getting in right know.
I continue to go towards education because It is the conservative way to get ahead, and I am tired of continually challenging strict authority.

I’ve been in school for a long time and am not sure it was a very good choice at all.

Will I forgive him?

@Simone_De_Beauvoir
The bad news is I will probably not be there to find out.

I believe you have a sorry belief in what the word STUPID means. You seem to equate it to school. That isn’t so, In this hi tech world a person needs to ‘know’ a lot.
I am not sure what your motive is to arrive at your conclusions. . .

Physically Weak means inable to lift an object if it means saving your life.

Stupid means inable to make a decision if it means saving your life.

Neither have anything to do with school

I must be stupid because I don’t understand the logic of your question or hold with your definition of “stupidity.”

But I’m not worried about being rejected at the pearly gates because I don’t believe in heaven or in a heavenly turnstile watchman. Neither is a “common belief” in my religion.

There is no “hereafter” so the question is pointless.

In other words… You met someone recently that so overwhelmed you with their ignorance it inspired you to write a question to try to make sense of it all. It happens to all of us bud. Ir, maybe I’m just over analytical and completely off base. That happens too on occasion…

Anyway, on to your question. Yes, stupid people and smart alike can enter heaven. It’s really not up to Peter. It’s Gods job to judge.

St Peter will forgive just about everything!

Everybody makes mistakes, if you were to tell me that you have never made a mistake, I would respond that you do an amazing job covering it up making sure it is not revealed. People are people are at the end of the day, judgement is left to God.

Maybe if you’re too stupid to get into Heaven, but that it’s not your fault, Saint Peter makes you go back to school before entering Heaven.
But if that stuff exists, I hope Valhalla is real. Sounds easier to get in there, so long as I go out blazing.

If being stupid was a punishable sin, noteworthy enough to be mentioned in the rules for getting into heaven (if there was such a place), there would have been another Commandment stating such.
And St. Peter isn’t be in charge of the forgiving.
And no body gets into heaven until Judgment Day, or so it says in the Bible.
Again, if there was such a place…

Holy crap! If my grades in school determine if I get into heaven or not, I AM SCREWED!!!
