I think it’s hilarious, shared on my social media a few weeks ago.

To me, he is having fun and mocking that redneck dance a bit, in an inoffensive way.

Plus it was his own free will, so not sure how it would be considered racist?

Why would it be racist? A black man dancing. Nothing more. Nothing less. It IS Funny.

Turn the tables, would it be viewed as racist then?

I don’t think it is myself but if it was a white redneck acting like a black person dancing it would be viewed that way. Just reveals how the racist card gets played and the double standard that exists.

So the man is dancing to mock white folks? Perhaps it’s because I haven’t seen any “red necks” doing that dance, that it would never occur to me. To me the man’s just doing a funny dance and he’s rather good at it.

Pretty sure they came up with the dance and the song themselves. It’s not a famous, mainstream country music dance like “Cottoneye Joe,” or “Boot Scootin Boogie.” It’s just a made up song and dance set to “country” music.

I love how those aren’t cowboy boots he’s wearing….they’re more like Uggs snow boots! The entire thing is simply hilarious to me!

I fail to see it.
He’s dancing, is all.
Suppose he did (intentionally do) a ‘whites dance’, what in Pete’s name would be racist abood it?

@stanleybmanly Since it’s a Git Up Challenge and the whole point is to make up dance moves, it’s not racist in any way imo. Sigh.

I don’t see it as racist either. It’s just dang funny. And making fun of other people is not always an insult. I guess it depends on what sense of humor you have. Rick has made fun of me around friends and family and I was laughing so hard I was in tears! I do the same thing to him, and it makes him laugh.
That would be a good Q, but hell, I’m out of questions and it just turned noon.

He is mocking how a good ole boy dances and he did a perfect job.Whenever I got dragged to the “boot scooting” venue down the street this is what most of the guys were doing who were not doing actual dance moves or whatever you call it. Spot on. For the record, I hated that place but the waffle House around the corner at 2am was sooo entertaining when it let out for the night.

LOL! I agree @ARE_you_kidding_me. It was perfect!

One time we were at a place that sells boats. We’d climb around on the pontoon boats and pretending. Rick had on a fluffy winter jacket. He was sitting in the driver’s seat and he pressed a button on the side and the seat raised up. Then down. Then up.
I said, “Cool! Let me try!” It didn’t register that he looked at me strangely at that moment, but he obligingly got up and sat on the couch.
I looked and looked for that button. I couldn’t find it. “Where is the button??!”
Rick said, helplessly, “Val….” I looked over at him and his couch seat was going up and down….I said, “What the hell?”
He said “Val, I’m just moving up and down inside my coat…” and the coat wasn’t moving. It was a wild illusion and I thought he was going to fall out of the boat laughing! He LOVES to tell that story!

And there are more. I never fail to laugh at his delivery, even if it IS at my “expense.”

He’s good, it takes a lot of practise to be so good. I couldn’t see any racism in it at all unless maybe where he seemed to copy how cowboys walk but I thought he was funny rather than cruel.

anniereborn's avatar

I just see a guy with some good moves.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yeah, I used to have moves like that!
Well. No. I NEVER had moves like that! I used to have moves, but not like that.

Dutchess_III's avatar

@ARE_you_kidding_me “I don’t think it is myself but if it was a white redneck acting like a black person dancing it would be viewed that way.” If that honkey could actually pull it off the way THIS guy pulled it off, which in my opinion is 2 steps above any 2 step dance EVER, and had better moves than most black people, I think black people would appreciate it.

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

I don’t think so. I think he would be called racist and there would be calls for his apology, people would go after his employer and demand he be fired…. I have seen too much of that sort of thing to think otherwise. Dropping the racist Trump card is just too cheap and easy right now.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@ARE_you_kidding_me You may be right, at this point in time.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yeah, you may be right. But you know, I think it would mostly be the white people calling it racist. I wish we had more people of color here, though.
