If you could change something or add a new feature to Fluther, what would it be?

Or is it already perfect? Your thoughts?

It’s perfecto.
Like the fish, apparently.

filmfann's avatar

I would like to be able to toggle the removed messages, so I can see what was said.

oratio's avatar

I second @filmfann. It is a bit disturbing to read answers to something removed.

Londonfrance's avatar

I would like to be able to edit my questions if I want to add a details.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

Oh…what I’ve been bitchin’ about ever since I’ve been on here. Make it that we can see the PM that we’re replying to. Every other site I’ve ever been on shows it. I HATE it with a passion.

jlm11f's avatar

Adding to what @jbfletcherfan said, being able to search through your inbox for a username (and/or a keyword) to only see PMs concerning them. It is very hard to keep track of PMs.

In addition, add the ability to delete more than one PM at a time – so check boxes next to PMs.

Okay, so the inbox system is fail. Love you bendrewim =)

hungryhungryhortence's avatar

I’d like a notification when someone responds to something I’ve written without me having to keep that post on the list of ones I’m following.

J0E's avatar

I’d like to see our user pages get reorganized. It’s annoying how it’s just one long page.

avvooooooo's avatar

I want “Questions for You” back like it was. It sucks this way, I never use it now.

chyna's avatar

I think irondavy passed out.
@avvooooooo The “Questions for You” comes up a long time after the question has been asked for me now. Is that what you are talking about?

jlm11f's avatar

Also, on the Iphone version of the site, get rid of the “my fluther and my awards” part of a person’s profile. It makes leaving a comment for that person impossible especially with those that have added half of fluther to their fluther.

augustlan's avatar

@Londonfrance You do have the ability to edit your questions for about 5 minutes after you’ve asked it.

Russter's avatar

I think fluther could really expand if it divided into sections. For example, you could create a Fluther section for your university where it only has questions and answers about your university.

Lots of times i have specific questions about my university that i want to ask but I know only people that go to the school would be able to answer it—so instead of asking the whole world i’d rather just ask the people from my school.

hearkat's avatar

Better ways to search and sort. For example, when exploring a topic, it would be nice to be able to sort chronologically, by GQ rating, and by # of GAs.

Skippy's avatar

Time noted on the answers/comments….
Otherwise, I Lurve it all!

ThePeanutGallery's avatar

@hearkat Some search results don’t even have a date stamp. What’s up with that?

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@Skippy roll your cursor over the area right next to the “flag as”. A paragraph symbol will come up & it’ll tell you when it was posted.

eponymoushipster's avatar

im surprised that no one’s said “Block comments from user x”. that’s usually one of the first responses to Qs like this one.

also, id like flutherbot to tell me the contents of PMs i received, not just that i received one, and possibly the ability to reply.

Skippy's avatar

@jbfletcherfan damn – where have I been? – OH yEA at the firepit with a Bud Lite…..
Thanx for the info!

tyrantxseries's avatar

I would like a button on your home page that would reset your Lurve points to zero anytime you wanted.
also
an option to exclude your self from the “awards” thing

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@Skippy NP, honey. Glad to help.

Skippy's avatar

@jbfletcherfan you’re always around when I need a helping hand…..

juniper's avatar

I’d like to be able to permanently remove questions I’ve asked. Sometimes I write dumb stuff.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@Skippy Awww, thanks…..... :-)

@juniper You don’t have the corner market on THAT one, LOL.

DominicX's avatar

I agree with @jbfletcherfan about the ability to see the PM you’re replying to. Makes it a lot harder to reply.

Additionally: bigger avatars. Or at least a bigger version of them on the profile page. I have so many potential avatars (I’ve collected about 222 in my life on Q&A sites) that get distorted and bad-looking when they’re shrunk down this small and so I don’t use them. Some of them where my face can’t even be seen. The avatars need to be bigger!

(I’ve been suggesting this ever since I first came on this site).

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@DominicX I think they ARE going to make the avatars bigger. I just read that on the blog Friday, I think it was.

DominicX's avatar

@jbfletcherfan Really?!!! wipes tear

This is awesome…seriously, out of the 80+ I’ve collected since I’ve come on Fluther, I’ve used about 15 of them. The rest look bad when shrunken this small. I really hope this happens!

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@DominicX….here you go, hon…...

”“Posted November 11th, 2009 by andrew

I swear, sometimes I wonder if there’s a hidden mic at Fluther HQ. Just this week people were talking about phoenyx’s nifty avatar enlarger, while others were embedding hidden messages in the tiny 40×40 avatars we use on the site.

During all this (and completely unrelated to the shenanigans on Fluther), we’ve been reworking the avatar engine to rescale all the pictures so they’re bigger on profile pages.

We’ll switch over later this week — so get ready!””

boffin's avatar

…or add a new feature to Fluther…
Life size pictures of “Astro Chuck”

Psychedelic_Zebra's avatar

@tyrantxseries I like your first one, the awards things, meh, I ignore those. But being able to reset your lurve points would mean I don’t have to make a new Fluther name at every 10K. Although I have come up with about six new Fluther names that sound pretty cool, too bad you only get one account at a time. Maybe I’ll start making new accounts every time I get to 5K.

it’s either that, or start a service where I create names for other people.

janbb's avatar

@Psychedelic_Zebra I still miss evelyn’s pet zebra.

phoenyx's avatar

I wish that questions or answers that people have gone back and edited were marked as having been edited.

For example, somebody will post a question. I will answer that question. Later, I will come back to find that the question has changed and my answer looks stupid; like I didn’t read the question accurately.

Another example: I could post an answer like ”I think pie is delicious”. The person following me might say ”yeah, I could eat a whole one right now.” I could go back and change my answer to ”I think babies are adorable.”

AstroChuck's avatar

A link to the blog on the iPhone version of Fluther. And while the gods are at it, an iPhone version of the Fluther blog site would be nice.
Also, a means to flag Q’s & A’s on my iPhone.

J0E's avatar

I agree with @AstroChuck, give the iPhone site some love!

hearkat's avatar

I third the expansion of the iPhone web app +/or significant improvement of the ‘native’ app. Especially for responding and editing!

YARNLADY's avatar

I would like to see old questions return to the home page when they get new answers. The only way they are seen now is if I already answered them, and they come on my “following” list.

hearkat's avatar

@YARNLADY: If you are on a regular browser (i.e. not mobile), then there are tabs that allow you to view questions in the order of posting, by Activity or to view unanswered “Orphan” questions.

ItalianPrincess1217's avatar

A better search engine so we are able to see a question that has already been recently asked. It doesn’t seem to work unless you use exact wording.

YARNLADY's avatar

@hearkat Yes, but when I answer an orphan question, it isn’t going to get any other answers or lurve, because no one will ever see it.

hearkat's avatar

@YARNLADY: Whomever selects the Activity tab, then will see whatever posts have most recently been commented on.

I think that ultimately the tags play a huge role in the issues with sorting and directing posts appropriately, and may even contribute to why some of the Orphans have not been answered. People don’t always tag appropriately, and sometimes use the tags to try to be cute… but it defeats the purpose.

YARNLADY's avatar

@hearkat I did not know that. I think you mean the tab that says “active”. Mine is set to “date” by default. I have used “orphan” a couple of times. I don’t know the answers to most of the orphan questions.

hearkat's avatar

@YARNLADY: Sorry… I am
most often on my iPhone, so the tabs are unavailable. I got the name if the tab mixed up. Sort by Date is the default for everyone, and I don’t think we can reset the default. (maybe that’s another suggestion!)

I’ve been through many Orphan pages, and don’t recall being able to contribute to any of them, unfortunately.

filmfann's avatar

Somehow have a warning “Do you really want to see that?” that appears 3 or 4 times before you can use the avitar enlarger on Daloon’s avitar.
Hysterical blindness is a terrible thing.

jonsblond's avatar

I wish I could add more people to my fluther. I reached the limit a long time ago.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@jonsblond don’t take ME out to make room!!! :-/

jonsblond's avatar

@jbfletcherfan I would never do that! I pinky swear. :)

rangerr's avatar

I kinda want to see what’s going on at the fluther office. Get a webcam, Bendrew.

YARNLADY's avatar

@jonsblond I go through mine whenever I want to add someone new and remove an inactive person

I wish my fluther friends list was in alphabetical order, so I would know where I stopped last time I had to drop somebody. – or better yet – up the limit.

avvooooooo's avatar

@chyna I was talking about how they cleared it out without asking anyone about it. Then they changed it to where questions went away when they have an arbitrary number of “enough” answers. Questions get taken away that you might have been interested in, but will never see. Or you click on it and then click on it again and you were too late to get to one that you wanted to go to, but didn’t do it in time…

I HATE IT. It really sucks. As someone who actually used the feature now and again and liked the option, I despise the ill-advised and poorly thought out change. It needs to be fixed back.

avvooooooo's avatar

I’d really like a gender notation on the profile. Its almost impossible to know many times when you’re talking to a he or a she. When you’re talking to a person about something gender specific its often useful to know who you’re talking to.

DominicX's avatar

@avvooooooo

I like that idea too, but I do think it should be optional. I remember on AIROW, I didn’t have a picture of me at first and my user name was just a gender-neutral term and everyone thought I was a girl.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@DominicX but see…that’s why there should be a place to state gender. I don’t like not knowing who’s who.

rangerr's avatar

@jbfletcherfan What if you want to be considered the opposite gender? I agree with @DominicX in that it should be optional.

avvooooooo's avatar

Maybe the options should be “male,” “female,” and “jelly.”

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@rangerr Personally…I consider it to be deceiving to pass yourself off as the opposite gender.

rangerr's avatar

@jbfletcherfan What about the transgender community?

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@rangerr I’ll just let that one lay.

janbb's avatar

I really enjoy not knowing people’s gender and being surprised to find out over time what folk identify as. It challenges my assumptions and makes me think.

eponymoushipster's avatar

@avvooooooo im all man. 110%. grrr….fyi

janbb's avatar

@avvooooooo Of course, there’s never any doubt with the monkey man!

avvooooooo's avatar

@rangerr Then it isn’t passing yourself off, its being what you feel you are. Those individuals have the option to choose whatever one they feel, but as in everyday society should be willing to answer questions if they mention a gender-specific body part or something like that which doesn’t match. Perhaps it should be optional, but I’d like the option.

@eponymoushipster I know. I used to bask in your sexy monkeyness on fb until you disappeared off my friends list. :P

eponymoushipster's avatar

@avvooooooo i deleted that account. search for eponymous hipster. you’ll find some sexy monkiness plus some.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@avvooooooo yeah, he did that to me, too! :-(

janbb's avatar

@avvooooooo You could always indicate it in your bio if it is important to you.

avvooooooo's avatar

@janbb I’d just like to know who I’m talking to. I can think of quite a number of times where gender-specific information (i.e. don’t do that, its bad for your testicles) has been given to people of the other gender by everyone. I think its helpful to know who you’re talking to so you can give better advice and answers.

RedPowerLady's avatar

So I finally remembered the feature I desperately want. I want to be able to “stop following” more than one question at a time. I have been trying to clear out my Q for awhile now but am getting nowhere.

Londonfrance's avatar

They need to make a way where we can delet the questions we made.

avvooooooo's avatar

I’d like a way to rank answers down, but that isn’t likely to happen.

rangerr's avatar

@avvooooooo “Great Answer” and “Jellyfish Poop Answer”?

avvooooooo's avatar

@rangerr Do jellies poop? Totally googling right now!

rangerr's avatar

@avvooooooo They poop from their mouths

avvooooooo's avatar

@rangerr EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

rangerr's avatar

@avvooooooo It actually makes sense for being a bad answer..

DominicX's avatar

I don’t think a downvote button would be a good idea. I’ve seen it on other sites. Half the threads turn into arguments about who downvoted what and how comments shouldn’t have been downvoted, etc. It’s ugly.

avvooooooo's avatar

@DominicX It probably won’t happen here, but its something that I wish for from time to time when I read a particularly stupid or inaccurate response that isn’t worth responding to for a variety of reasons. I like being able to express disapproval/disagreement without having to respond and get off subject or whatever.

rangerr's avatar

I just noticed the little fishies at the bottom of the page.
That one little guy is going off by himself.
I don’t like that. =/

avvooooooo's avatar

@rangerr LOL! He’s an individual!

rangerr's avatar

@avvooooooo He’s too little to go off by himself! Remember what happened to Nemo?

avvooooooo's avatar

@rangerr Yeah, but that little guy doesn’t look like he’s got a gimpy fin.

RedPowerLady's avatar

@DominicX I agree. I like the positive tone of Fluther. Plus there is always PM if you really disagree with someone, lol..

oratio's avatar

@DominicX Yes, I agree. Sometimes however, I’d like to be able to give more lurve to some comments I GA, on a scale of 1–3.

rangerr's avatar

I’d like to be able to give 1 lurve point for each great PM.

avvooooooo's avatar

@rangerr Good idea! There was a PM just last night that someone told me they wished they could give lurve for. I’ve had a few lurve-worthy ones come in myself. :)

janbb's avatar

I disagree – I think pm’s are for friendship’s sake not for lurve.

One new feature I’d like to see is an addition to the “Send this question to a friend” feature. It would be nice if you can attach a comment to it saying why you are sending it.

avvooooooo's avatar

@janbb Also, a notification that someone sent you a question. Or is there one alerady and no one sending me questions?

I gave some advice last night that might help a situation that someone is dealing with. That’s when I was told that my PM was lurve-worthy. :)

rangerr's avatar

@avvooooooo Sent u question.

Maybe like, one PM lurve per day. Just because there’s been a few that have completely helped me, or made my day.

avvooooooo's avatar

@rangerr Now, see… There’s no notification. There’s no indication that a certain question in Q4U was sent by someone. That kinda stinks. :P
