Was the SS Empress of Russia the same ship as the RMS Empress of Russia?

The SS Empress of Russia was an oceanliner that traveled from Hong Kong to Vancouver, making the steamship a very popular mode of travel for travelers including celebrities and immigrants from China. The RMS Empress of Russia carried Chinese laborers recruited by Great Britain to work during the First World War.

This ship was built at Fairfields on the Clyde in 1913. It was scrapped in 1945. There is a model of the ship in the Glasgow Transport Museum. The Empress of Russia was a steamship and so the name was prefixed with “SS”. The ship name was prefixed “RMS” for Royal Mail Ship to indicate when it was carrying mail under contract to the British Royal Mail
